NIGHT OF 1,000 THONGS Victoria's Secret Special Gives New Meaning to CBS Eye
By J. Max Robins
CBS is trading in its Tiffany for lingerie, for one November night, at least.
The network has struck a deal with Victoria's Secret, purveyors of sexy underthings, for an hour-long fashion show sure to be long on skin and short on material.
Last November, when ABC aired its own highly rated but critically vilified special, Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, the network drew protests from feminist organizations, as well as hundreds of viewer complaints to the Federal Communications Commission. That heat may have driven ABC out of the lingerie business.
However, CBS gave a quick yes when Victoria's Secret sought a new partner. Network executives there saw how well the show had done with young viewers, male and female, even as some critics deemed it soft-core porn. Because the special is essentially an infomercial for their lingerie shops, much of its costs the ABC version reportedly had a $5 million price tag are covered by Victoria's Secret. "[CBS] couldn't afford to do a show like this if [Victoria's Secret] wasn't picking up most of the freight," says an industry insider close to the project.
Once again, the "thong-athon"(as one network executive calls it) is scheduled for November sweeps, that all-important period when ad rates at local stations are set. Marquee musical guests are being lined up, and plans are afoot to give the Victoria's Secret special a major promotional push not only on the network but also on MTV, VH1 and TNN, which, like CBS, are part of media giant Viacom.
"[CBS] is going to amp it up, even beyond what ABC did. Everybody involved thinks the hotter the better," says the industry insider. The network "plans to give it all the big-time production values they give the Grammys. This will be like a high-fashion strip show and rock concert all in one."

No doubt the Charlie Church crowd will be out in force denouncing this show. I am still hopefull that one day they will discover a magnificant device called the remote control. For those who have yet to discover this device, it is used to CHANGE THE STATION!

(I wanted to post some other pictures, but no need to get in trouble)

This will be followed up in the February 2003 sweeps with "Victoria's Secret Survivor". Which piece of clothing will be voted off the model?

Thong list? Hey, I'm just waiting for the PICTURES on this thread! Surely, no pictures in a Victoria's Secret thread must be some kind of FR violation!

Actually, I was considering just broadcasting my own signal over the same frequency that CBS uses--that would be channel 2 in New York. When the cops, paid for with my tax dollars, tell me to shut down my broadcast, do you think I can just tell them to change their channel?
Or do corporations such as CBS have freedom of speech rights that individuals don't have?

"I wonder what the theme song will be?"
A re-recording of "Shake Your Booty."

Wouldnt your broadcasting on their spectrum be considered piracy and theft since they have purchased it?
You want to buck up for the spectrum go right ahead and broadcast anything you want.
To: general_re
Add me. ;^)

CBS-Viacom is planning to have Hillary Clinton parade across the stage in her BVDs. All boos will be replaced with swooning cheers as with the 9/11 concert they broadcast.

You mean you won't be sticking up for my 1st amendment rights? Or will you only support my freedom of speech if I show thongs?

I will stick up for your 1st amendment rights as much as I will mine.
While we all have the right to free speech, none of us have a right to be listened to or heard.
And if you show thongs, you will have a large audience.

When did they buy it? From whom? So no one, not even Charlie Church, can tell them not to broadcast cigarette ads or hard core porn at 3 pm ?

Why stop there? Why not include Nickelodian and TV-Land?
They could even have a storefront display at Blockbuster.

We have enough smut on t.v. If you are that undersexed that you can't be sexy without trash, you need help. When some one who sees the show, and rapes some one you love maybe you will feel different.
Just what is your problem with people who happen to love The Lord and don't want trash on t.v. Those who want pornography should get the pay chanel. Why do we have to be afraid to scan the chanels?
The class of people on F.R has certainly gone down to a lower class. The one's who have been here awhile do have class. Who is your hero Satan?

I could care less if they ran cigarette ads all during the day. They used to.
And if they want to run "adult programming", fine with me.
To: codebreaker; lodwick
Put this on your list for " Live Thread".
To: SoCal Pubbie
the problem is redstone, karmazin et al. are dumb hypocrites. they cower and pay FCC fines if howard stern utters an offensive comment but it's OK if some bimbos parade down a runway in thongs???????????

Who is your hero Satan? No. But unlike you Im not looking to "Big Daddy Government" to protect me from television shows.
Don't like it, change the channel.
There are lots of people who would like The 700 Club taken off the air and EWTN removed from cable systems. Do you support their efforts at removing programming they find offensive? Or just the removal of programming YOU find offensive?
To: MSCASEY
When some one who sees the show, and rapes some one you love maybe you will feel different. I guess any and all tv programming that could possibly cause someone to do something they shouldnt should be banned.
Little kids started jumping out of windows and off roofs thinking they could fly after Superman became a hit. Should Superman have been banned? After all, if just 1 child was saved it would have been worth it.
And if someone i know and/or love is ever raped, i wont blame a tv show. I will blame the criminal.

You think it is o.k. for kids to watch this? You have to be imature to watch smut. I watch the 700 Club. It could never harm anyone. Just why do you need something like this? Your darn right, I am going to object to c.b.s.
Rape has gone up over 500% since they no longer censor what is on t.v. Abortion, and all the rest have gone up. You and Teddy Kennedy would make a good pair. Why are you on a consevative site? Join the a.c.l.u.
