LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A high school administrator who allegedly lifted the skirts of teen girls at a dance to make sure they were not wearing skimpy thong panties was put on leave, but furious parents said they would not be satisfied until she was fired.
Rita Wilson, a vice principal at Rancho Bernardo High School in suburban San Diego, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, officials there said.
"She needs to be fired," mother Alane Garvik said. "And if they don't fire her I'm willing to file a lawsuit. My daughter has already told me she doesn't want to go back to Rancho Bernardo if (Wilson) is still there." "She feels violated," Garvik said. "She feels like somebody was messing with her private parts. All those boys there seeing her butt and her thong."
Garvik said among the few girls who escaped a panty inspection were those who were overweight.
"They said: 'You are overweight so I wouldn't expect you to be wearing something like (thong panties)," Garvik said. "One girl was told she was 'matronly' and since she was 'matronly' they didn't expect her to be wearing something like that."
Other parents said girls were made to partially disrobe if Wilson or another teacher suspected they weren't wearing bras.

I saw this on O'Reilly last night. Apparently what happend last year one of the girls exposed herself and that is what set off the teachers to check for underwear.
To: Hemingway's Ghost
This is a public , uh...I mean government, school. Why would an school administrator even be concerned about such things?

I really cannot believe this. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thongs. Girls where them all the time to avoid lines when wearing fitted pants or skirts.

yes i could tell Bill O'Reilly's panties were in a wad over the story last night. i am still skeptical. i find it exceptionally hard to believe that the VP did this. i was on my kids field trip today and one of the other chaperones is a VP in the Fairfax County school system here. she was unfamiliar with the story, but she told a few stories about parents threatening legal action for her even TALKING to a student about possible consequences for an infraction (in this instance it was printing out an Instant Message where a pornographic scenario was painted of a fellow student. The kid confessed to doing it, the VP called the mother and the mother said, YOU DON"T SAY A WORD TO HER TIL I GET THERE WITH MY ATTY....)

Like me, I am sure HG's interest in this story is purely about the legal intricacies, and technicalities of the law.

well you know i am looking at it strictly from a legal point of view !!! if i were a school administrator i would want to be smacking PARENTS!

No "smacking" and "thong" allowed in the same thread.

i think this thread is a bit more lighthearted than previous threads on the subject started out! i was off today, and hence had no BRIEFS to worry about.

And folks wonder why there's a shortage of school administrators? Who needs constant hassle over trying to run a school with even a basic set of rules? Our schools were much better places for providing a quality teaching & learning environment when the administrators had nearly absolute power. Fear is a great motivator, and kids used to be afraid of being "sent to the office." First you'd get wacked at school and them more from Dad once he heard about it.
Old-fashioned? You bet, and it worked, too!

Sounds like they need another logic teacher at that school. For the teachers.

i went to catholic school and i was hit by the teacher precisely once. it was for TALKING on the school bus, because i told someone what time it was when they asked. we were not permitted to talk on the bus. i didn't tell my mother about it for years, because i knew she would likely smack me for needing to be smacked!

Perhaps you missed the part yesterday about how only miniskirted girls were checked. Girls in long skirts weren't checked.
There's something seriously wrong with teenaged girls wearing them. There's something totally wrong with parents who allow their teenaged daughters to wear them.
Girls wear them so as not to have panty lines when GUYS LOOK AT THEIR BUTTS. If I had a teenaged daughter, she wouldn't dress like a trollop, so the teenaged boys would look at other people's daughters.
Where I come from, any girl showing her panties is a hoochie, no matter how much material said panties include.
Further, kids shouldn't be wearing clothes that fit so well as to make lines visible. That's what jeans are for.
If you raise your daughter to be a lady, you won't have to worry about such things.

Jeez, did y'all even read the whole story yesterday? Only girls in short skirts (with the concomitant threat of exposure) were checked; girls in pants and long skirts weren't.

you know i think it is interesting the initial take that people have on this story. my gut reaction is to believe the administrator and to think that the kids are blowing the entire thing up and calling in the litigious parents. but you obviously take the side of the students as gospel. why is that? i am asking honestly and sincerely.

Your mother raised you right! We were good when we were small, not because we were innately angelic but because Mom worked in our school, and we knew that any school discipline would be followed by the swift, sure and far harsher home discipline. Nothing was fun enough to be worth getting busted by the teacher, the principal, Mom AND Dad for one infraction!

I personally do not dress like a hooch, I happen to like Ralph Lauren, New York&Company, and Jones New York. In other words, I like to dress very classically, but I realize that some fabrics show underwear lines, even when the pants or skirt are not tight, especially when the pants have a tab front, are boot-cut, and slim fit, which are the cuts that I like.

Punish everyone for the acts of one - typical
To: areafiftyone
Then why not just require girls to wear skirts of a certain length, or emphatically state that any girl "exposing" herself will be suspended or even expelled. Instead the school resorts to "police state" tactics and violates the girls before they even were guilty of anything.
Bureaucratic morons!

The reason that girls wear thongs, is so their underwear lines will not show! Thongs are low-rise and will not show lines. Everyone that I know wears them and I attend a Christian University, where people tend to dress very modestly.

I suspect it was simply an overworked attempt to avoid that dreaded Health & Saftey Problem----The Impacted Thong.

Typical Government bureaucracy - look for a problem before its found and try and solve it before it happens.....they can't just deal with girls who "expose" themselves, they have to deal with girls choice of underwear, and make the issue SO MUCH BIGGER THAN EVER. Now we'll have the gov't bureaucrats looking at how to make schools "thong-free." Course, they are the ones who titilate them with condom story time, but, hey, who's keeping track! YOUR tax dollars AT WORK.
To: FreedominJesusChrist
I cannot resist - this whole "thong underwear" thing defeats the real purpose of underwear in the first place. (I'd hate to be washing the things out!) Tell your friends there are other ways to not have panty lines, for heavens sake. Civilization will survive without thong underwear.
To: scott91
I hate to spoil your fun, but I don't think the "rules" apply to minors.
To: FreedominJesusChrist
So, you like to walk around wearing butt floss all day? Sounds very uncomfortable to me, having that tiny piece of material wedging itself between my cheeks.

Thongs may be low-rise, but hip-huggers are lower yet. How do you think Clinton knew Monica was wearing a thong? She didn't show him the bottom - she showed him the elastic at the top. Ergo, they're not low-rise enough.

She probably pulled the top up to show him or pushed her pants down. There is nothing wrong with low-rise jeans or pants, they are a lot more comfortable than the other styles, I wear them all the time.
To: CdMGuy
I am not going to personally answer that question, but if they were uncomfortable, they wouldn't sell as well as they do.
To: FreedominJesusChrist
I really cannot believe this. There is absolutely nothing wrong with thongs. Girls where (sic) them all the time to avoid lines when wearing fitted pants or skirts.Or as they said on a commercial a couple of years back, "You've gotta split your peaches before you serve 'em."
To: Hemingway's Ghost
I missed the big thread yesterday, but to me this is no different than the problem with the priests in the church.
How do you imagine the priests made their first advances on the young boys? Do you suppose they asked to check their underwear for some innocuous reason?
I'm not suggesting that what the teacher did is elevated to the level of pedaphelia, but if you want to nip a problem in the bud, where do you begin? I think a good place to start is by expecting non-parental figures to stay away from our children's underwear.
