Hizbullah in Dixie

North Carolina would appear to be an unlikely outpost for supporters of a Mideast terrorist group. But federal prosecutors say it was. And now a former member is their star witness.

April 19 — The house on Donnefield Drive on the east side of Charlotte, N.C., is pleasant enough from the outside. With azalea bushes blooming in the front yard of the blue-slate, two-story structure and American flags flying from homes up and down the street, it looks like just another home on just another quiet suburban block. But for five years, a group of men who grew up in South Beirut, Lebanon, met in the house to praise and organize support for Hizbullah, the Mideast terror outfit, according to federal prosecutors.

One seized pamphlet labeled America “The Great Satan” and a video showed a picture of a burning car and a crowd chanting “Death to America; Death to Israel.”

More ambassadors of the "religion of peace."
Yes, but, we cannot have racial profiling, you know.
Let's fry these murderous jackals.

Why oh why are these people allowed into this country in the first place, and after being allowed in able to stay?
Does Rob Reiner know he was smuggling cigarettes? Might be a good way to get these murdering terrorists deported.
Seriously, stories like this are just horrifying to me. They come here and distribute videos promoting our murders and the overthrow of the United States government and they are all over the country.

Apparently, and unfortunately, they're not horrifying enough to our "leaders" to put a stop to it.

The men were accused of smuggling millions of dollars in cigarettes from North Carolina, where they were taxed at 50 cents a carton, one of the lowest tobacco tax rates in the country, to resell in Michigan, a state with one of the highest rates—$7.50 a carton.

Hey Dubya! High government taxes are contributing to the funding of terrorists....

It would probably be a good idea to keep an eye out in states with high cigarette taxes, like Washington state, for instance -
the highest cigarette taxes in the nation. The idiot legislators who pass these morionic "sin taxes" may get something
they did not bargain for: "cigarette terrorists" making a beeline straight for Seattle.

Arab militants - though few in number - are quite active here in North Carolina. Low-level scams by them as a source of personal income are a norm - but to pay their own bills, rather than some overseas outfit's!

They mostly came on student visas - and overstayed. Some entered into "green-card marriages" and some even got naturalized that way.

Some have been local cadres for well-known Arab militant leaders.

Wake up. The taxes are different in NC and Michigan. Does that mean anything to you?

(HINT: It is the STATE LAWMAKERS in the respective states who set the different tobacco product taxes - NOT President Bush!!!)

And, federal taxes when levied are put there by Congress (yes the President signs the bills). But Congress people pass tax laws - NOT the President.

Ok, civics lesson over - go back to sleep.

Why oh why are these people allowed into this country in the first place, and after being allowed in able to stay?

Good question!

Our government's solution to domestic terrorism is not to close the borders to fanatic murderers, but to turn America into a police state where law-abiding American citizens are under close surveillance along with barbaric foreigners who should never have been allowed to enter our country. And instead of deporting illegal aliens, Congress is considering allowing applications to let those who are in the United States apply for legal status.

duh

Just before I left NYC I met one of our recent immigrants who unabashedly told me that he came here to "crook America". I fear that this is the mindset of many of our new immigrants, not just the Islamic ones.

Hizbullah is also known as “Party of God"...

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea to throw such a party for them; they could get to meet the Big Guy real fast, but only just before he directs them to the furnace room in the basement. Works for me.

Remember those ME types who were involved in a traffic altercation some time back and offered the American huge amounts of cash NOT to call police? He called the sheriff who proceeded to let them go as I remember. I can't remember if the incident itself was pre-9/11.

Fred, I think we discussed whether or not the MEs were panicked just because they were illegal or whether they were carrying contraband--whether of a terrorist nature or "just" something like a cigarette scam...

In any event we were pretty PO'd that the sheriff let them go and were speculating about whether he was getting a pay-off on a scam. Maybe they were being stung, though only on the cigarette scam at the time.

VC, I'm very glad to read your comment #2 and know that somebody's looking after matters--at least in Atlanta.

Low-level scams by them

Why am I at risk of developing a stereotype of Arabs as being all about scams?

They are also an arrogant lot.

Wake up. The taxes are different in NC and Michigan. Does that mean anything to you?

Did I say Bush imposed the taxes?...No!

Are there federal taxes on cigarettes that contributed to the funding of terrorists?...Yes!

Does Bush claim to want to freeze/eliminate the funding of terrorists...Yes?

Did the ramification of high taxes imposed by government (state or otherwise) on cigarettes help to fund terrorists?...Yes!

So where exactly was I wrong again?

Oh, now I get it. We should thank Congress "NOT the President" for any recent tax cuts. In other words, all the good tax laws he signs are the Presidents, all the bad tax laws he signs are Congress'.

Thanks for the civics lesson...now dream on.

Gee, I didn't know that GW was ever governor of NC or Michigan? So how is he responsible for the taxes of states.

By the way who was your candidate for President and what did he do to prevent the high taxes on ciggies in Michigan and NC?

My wife is calling me go work in the yard. That has to be the fault of the evil GW!

What is your political party and what did they do to prevent high taxes on ciggies in the various states?

off hand, I can recall 3 published run ins w/ ME types in arkansas since 9/11. sorry I can't remember specifics, but here they are:

1. ft. smith, ar. - ME was detained and later released. checked his computer and interviewed his anglo convenience wife. can't remember names nor outcome. don't recall $$$ changing hands.
2. russelville, ar. - just after 9/11 car load of ME pulled over near russelville (site of entergy nuclear one). questioned and released to continue their trip to new york or new jersey. no money change hands that I can recall.
3. wynne, ar. - van load of ME, including some from one of the former USSR "stans". questioned and released. no money changed hands that I recall.

sorry I can't be more accurate, but I don't think Sal's account having arkie roots.

I fear that this is the mindset of many of our new immigrants, not just the Islamic ones.

We should be fearful because it's the truth. Let me tell you two things that happened before I recently escaped Kalifornia for NC...

The first was a little chat with a slightly tipsy Asian neighbor. She flat out told me to my face that lots of Asian women "pretend" to be submissive before they hook American men. Then, after marriage, "they turn into Connie Chung." She thought that was hilarious; I thought it was sad.

During a discussion about the flood of illegals into the Southwest (at which discussion I was made to feel like an ignorant racist), an American-born, highly educated man of Mexican descent said to me, and I quote: "Your people [European caucasians] stole this land [Southwest US] from my people [Mexicans] and we're getting it back by sheer numbers." He thought that was justice; I think it's a bloodless but neverthless potentially victorious "war."

Someone (ppaul, I think) said that the Arabs in NC are "few in number." All I can say is we must keep it that way for as long as possible and thank God for small favors. I moved here to escape life in a 3rd world country such as CA has become, but I'm giving this area about 10 years before it becomes yet another province of Mexico, or Saudi Arabia, or China, or [fill in the blank].

Beach Babe: It's beyond frightening. Frightened was how I felt in CA about 12 years ago. I know. I was there.

I'm only able to hope for a holding back of this tidal wave for as long as possible, but GWB (I volunteered for his campaign and am becoming increasingly disappointed--an understatement of Biblical proportions!) does not believe there's a problem, 911 notwithstanding. Our government did not move quickly enough after 911 IMHO--the borders should have been closed immediately, all illegals, visa overstayers, felons and fugitives rounded up and sent home, and all applications of foreigners who entered the country in the last 5-10 years reviewed before re-opening the borders with new and very strict standards that are enforced.

I might as well just dream on....

Re: La Reconquista. It will be interesting to see what happens in Norte Kalifornia when los reconquistadores come up against the Chinese who are buying up everything they can get at grotesque prices. I don't think the Chinese are going to be shoved out of their dearly purchased property. (The ones buying in my area are mainly from Taiwan I'm told. Hopefully they aren't John Huang type Taiwanese...)

I vaguely remember that incident as NC, but my memory is on heavy overload (no, I couldn't be losing it) and I can't seem to find most of the threads that I KNOW were on FR. I'm sure Fred will remember because I'm pretty sure he was VERY worried about it and was considering trying to get somebody in authority to DO something about it. 'Course that was probably some OTHER incident/thread that I remember part of. :-(

Another nitwit with a comprehension problem....or is it simply senility?

Did I say GW imposed the tax?...Does GW want to defund terrorists?...Did the terrorists take advantage of high government (state or otherwise) imposed taxes?...Does the federal government tax cigarettes?...Did the middle east nitwits pay the federal taxes?...Is transporting contraband across state lines a federal offense? Is the justice department under the executive branch?....Is Bush THEE Executive?

A voice coming from a speaker in the background declares: “We swear by the blood and the scattered body parts of our children (sic!) and the tortures of our prisoners that we will answer the call and will continue to detonate ourselves to cause the earth to shake under the feet of our enemy, America and Israel.”

Tell me once again, please, just how we can reason with these people (much less turn them into genuine Americans)?

They need to be either sent home or to Allah, and I don't really care which one. They are a toxic waste in America, or any other decent civilization - not people to be either endured or emulated. Let them go pollute their own miserable cultures!
