OTTAWA -- The dance is over for Josee Dubreuil.

The 26-year-old stripper has been found guilty of stealing more than $124,000 worth of winning Pro-Line lottery tickets from millionaire gambler Terry Leblanc.

Clad in a black sweater and pants, her long, blond hair reaching past her waist, Dubreuil sat still as Justice Bernard Dagenais delivered his decision Thursday.

Also in court was her forlorn former lover Leblanc, who had made more than $6 million during an eight-month gambling period six years ago. That's when he met Dubreuil while she was dancing at Pigale, a local strip club.

PAID FOR DATES

The unlikely pair started dating exclusively after Leblanc began paying her for their dates. She was his first girlfriend and within four months, he'd lost his virginity and Dubreuil had asked him to marry her.

Dubreuil said she wanted security money up front to ensure the wedding went ahead, so Leblanc transferred $14,000 into her account and loaned her $2,000 for breast implants.

At trial, the defence said Leblanc accused Dubreuil of stealing the tickets after he realized she was a "bad investment," while assistant Crown attorney Gaston Paul Langevin said Dubreuil took advantage of the self-proclaimed virgin.

'OBSESSED WITH THIS GIRL'

In matters of gambling, Leblanc may have been a genius, but in matters of romance, he was helpless.

During the preliminary hearing in 1999, she kept winking at him and shooting him knowing looks, to the point that he was overcome on the witness stand and fainted.

Throughout the case, Dubreuil said Leblanc had given her the winning tickets, but Dagenais didn't buy it.

"He wasn't the type of guy to throw away his money even though he was obsessed with this girl," Langevin said.

Sweet-talking stripper gave cash away
Lottery tickets a gift: Sister
By ANDREA LANTHIER-- Ottawa Sun

OTTAWA -- The buxom blonde stripper accused of stealing thousands from a professional gambler gave her winnings to her sisters as a "nice gesture," a Hull court heard yesterday.

Josee Dubreuil, 26, is accused of stealing more than $120,000 worth of sports lottery tickets from Terry Leblanc, 34, in 1996.

Dubreuil's sisters, Nathalie Harb and Chantal Dubreuil, testified their sister gave them the tickets, which were given to Josee as a gift from a "customer."

"She knew I was going through a tough time," said Harb, whose husband cashed $44,000 worth of winning tickets.

Harb said she remembered Leblanc visiting her house and remembered serving chicken for dinner, but could not remember if he demanded the money back.

Leblanc made more than $6 million gambling with lottery tickets during an eight-month period. It was during this time he met Dubreuil at the strip club and the two became involved.

The first time the former fiancees met in court, Leblanc passed out on the stand after being "intimidated" by Dubreuil's charm. Leblanc didn't attend yesterday's hearing.

The prosecution also called John Harvey, a retired Lotto Quebec investigator, who confirmed Dubreuil and her sisters' partners cashed the winning tickets.

Although tickets don't reveal the buyer's name, Harvey said Leblanc was among only two big-time gamblers in Quebec at the time the tickets were cashed.

"We can't tell who bought the tickets but on the other hand, he was the only one betting $600 at a time," he said.

The defence failed to have the case thrown out after claiming reasonable doubt. The trial resumes Feb. 8.

Any guy who gets involved with a stripper is asking for trouble and/or ends up causing trouble for his wife & others.

Strippers make up a tiny percentage of women, yet the fraud/murder rate among them appears to be exceptionally high. From the murder of the Las Vegas millionair Ted Binion to the stripper who plowed her car into a group of teenagers, killing six, there appear regularly news reports of yet another major crime committed by strippers.

In Ontario, we have something called Pro Line. It's a government run sports betting. I'm not sure if it in other provinces, but I'd say it likely is Canada wide.

When Toronto got an NBA team, the NBA made a big stink about the lottery, because they didn't want people betting on NBA games.

Of course, all this money goes to the 'children' and 'schools', or at least that is what the commericals are trying to convince me of.
