UK police arrest Islamic cleric for soliciting to kill Jews

A London-based Muslim cleric was arrested by anti-terrorist officers on Monday amid allegations that he urged Muslims to kill Jews and non-believers, police sources said.

Abdullah el-Faisal, 38, was seized by Scotland Yard's anti-terrorist branch officers in a dawn raid at his home in east London on Monday.

Born in Jamaica and a convert to Islam, he had been touring Britain urging followers to kill Jews and non-believers, police said.

Members of parliament had called for action to be taken against the cleric after it was reported that video tapes carrying his message were on sale in Islamic bookshops in Britain.

"At approximately 7:00 A.M. officers from the anti-terrorist branch arrested a 38-year old man in connection with an allegation of soliciting to murder under the Offences Against the Person Act," a Scotland Yard spokesman told Reuters.

"He is being held at a central London police station," the spokesman added.

Soliciting to commit murder is a rarely used accusation, defined under the Offences against the Person Act as encouraging, persuading, endeavoring to persuade or proposing to a person to murder another person. The maximum sentence is life imprisonment.

Police also raided other addresses across London and, the Scotland Yard spokesman said.

This is excellent news!

Long overdue, though, to my mind. This man was allowed to spread his hateful rhetoric for far too long.

That's good, but you notice it took calls from MPs before anyone did anything.

You would think that such a loving, peaceful, religious order would disown and disavow an extremist such as this gentleman. Oh well, I guess we can't condemn them with too broad a brush, we Christians have the likes of the irreverent Jesse Jackson and Big Al Sharpton.

What the hell took them so long to arrest this guy?

Europe seems to be having a problem facing their islamist problem.

We spent scare resources on the Drug war.

You spent scare resources on the Drug war.

We spent scarce resources dealing with Irish Terrorist.

You spent scarce resources dealing with the Militia.

It seems we were both looking the wrong way.

Cheers Tony

It may be argued by some that this guy is just one isolated nut-case and that all religions have their problem priests. However, Islamic bookshops in Britain promoted his views and for that the Muslim community is responsible.

Good point. The notion of a "radical few" is wearing quite thin. The Islamic community was complicit in aiding and abetting his calls of violence. Why aren't these shops and the mosques he was hosted at be the object of charges of aiding and abetting in his commission of the offence?

True Tony (re: wasted resources and efforts). It's somewhat like strains of the flu virus, though....you seem to have a really nasty one, there, in merry old England.

You don't believe it? LOL.

He was distributing 'race tapes' which called for the murder of Jews.

And then there is this::

AK-47 training held at London mosque

-SNIP-'MI5 has been told by their agents that scores of young men were being sent from the mosque for training at camps in Afghanistan. They reported that consignments of supplies including radio and telecommunications equipment were dispatched to Pakistan for eventual distribution in the Afghan training camps allied to or run by al-Qaeda.

They also revealed a complex operation run by some men attending the mosque to provide volunteers with false documents. Although the men recruited by MI5 were not directly involved in the logistics of supplying overseas Mujahideen, the operation was openly talked about at the mosque.'

I didn't say I didn't believe it. I said what were the exact statements. You obviously do not know and are apparently so gullible that you automatically assume that the statements were made. Have you seen transcripts of the tape? Do you know for a fact that is what he said?

So then who's responsible for selling copies of Mein Kampf?
