"We don't have a clue who these folks are," Markowitz said. This idiot is the poster boy for school vouchers.

I feel the same way. I grew up in Bergen County. Sure has changed over the years. Moved to Sussex county years ago, glad I did!

New York City was the most important city in the world in 1945. But it has been in decline ever since. Their population has been declining, their tax base has declined as of late, businesses are moving out like crazy. It's not just the high taxes and regulations that are causing this. It is also the bigotry and sheer ugliness of the people of New York that makes it an unpleasant place to live.
Isn't this guy a racist in that all he can think of is color? If you know anything about Martin Luther King, then you know he wouldn't condone this type of behavior. Martin Luther King was American and he honored America. this dog from Brooklyn is not in that category.

You can be peeved by my post if you like; it's your right. I do all I feasibly can to fight liberalism and don't have to list my conservative credentials to you.
Just because I fight, however, doesn't mean that I don't have a brain to see the writing on the wall. As I originally asked, if you have a logical reason to prove my assertion wrong, why don't you present it? I don't mean a bunch of rah-rah macho sounding crap that's as worthless as teats on a boar hog; I mean a bona fide reason to think that things are going to get better instead of worse.

RE #44
The same can be said about London, Paris and Berlin. They all suffer from same madness. Ever heard of astonishing level of rudeness and cynicism in Paris ? Some New Yorker were of the opinion that, even though they may live in decaying cesspool, NYC is so much better than any nice quiet Mid-West city. Just because it is New York. I wonder if those types are still around. This was preJuliani days. Crime was high at the time.

"How about Thurgood Marshall or Dr. [Martin Luther] King? How about an outstanding woman?" Markowitz asked. Joycelyn Elders, maybe?
"I'm not going to do this alone."
OK, maybe not Joycelyn Elders.

Their population has been declining NOT TRUE. New York lost population from 1960-1980, but gained population in the 1990 and 2000 census due to immigration (population is now at an all time high of approx. 8 million people). The high point of business flight occurred from 1950-1980, when the city lost its industrial base. New York still remains the financial capital of the world, although most banks are now in Midtown instead of Wall Street, with back offices located in New Jersey and Connecticut. It may not be as central in terms of industry as it used to be, but (at least for my industry) it still is "where its at."

Very well said, according to William Stephenson author of "Cryptonomicon" "we are the most bad-ass virus that evolution has yet produced on the face of this planet." So let's go with that..... there's probably a reason we have evolved to be the most efficent killers, there's probably a pretty bad contender that needs eradicating for the good of the planet as a whole.... at least we are otherwise tolerant and benevolent!

Time for the line in the sand to be drawn against political correctness. This puke is a "touchy-feely" RAT BA*TARD who deserves to be hung for dishonoring George Washington in such a manner.
Now he'll probably hang a portrait of Jesse 'Shakedown' Jackass in his office. THE LOSER!

New York is actually nicer than when I was a kid in the 1980s. Since Real Estate in Manhattan is unaffordable, gentrification has spread to parts of Brooklyn. There are now fifth floor studio walk-ups on the Lower East Side that go for $1,500 a month.
New York's politics may suck, but I would take it over some hell hole like Cleveland or Indianapolis any day of the week. You guys in Middle America can drive to your Wal-Marts and McMalls, while New Yorkers have some of the best independent shopping in the world. In my eyes, if it weren't for the taxes, regulation and gun control, it would be the closest thing to heaven for me.

"The majority people of Brooklyn are people of color. Just make sure you don't call "people of color" "colored people." The former demonstrates your sensitivity and progressiveness. The latter marks you as an insensitive racist.

Wonder if he's going to stop spending $1 bills or quarters since Washington's picture is on them. He can send them to me.

I read this in the NY Post this morning and almost spit my coffee out, especially since we are about one month away from the General's 270th birthday. This idiot from Brooklyn should know that the biggest battle of the Revolution occured in Brooklyn (there were approximately 30,000 men in the field) and that the General was there at the time. A lot of brave men died in that borough during that battle.
Further, more Patriots died (11,500) in the English prison ships in Wallabout Bay on the Brooklyn side of the East River than in all the battles of the Revolution.
He should find out more about the history of this country that likely let his grandparents in from somewhere in eastern Europe more than 100 years after the Revolution. And I'm originally from Brooklyn. What an idiot this guy is.

"How about Thurgood Marshall or Dr. [Martin Luther] King? How about an outstanding woman?" Markowitz asked. "I'm not going to do this alone."
Markowitz's new deputy borough president, Yvonne Graham, the first Caribbean woman to hold the title, also is eager to redecorate her office.
"I would like to see maybe a portrait of Harriet Tubman or Sojourner Truth," she said.

thanks for telling me those facts; I still don't like New York, I'll just have to change my standard rant a bit.
To: Pharmboy
my sentiments to you since you're originally from Brooklyn and I agree with everything you say. But you know those guys who died in the revolutionary war were almost all white guys. It's all about racism and tearing america apart and discrediting everything that the earlier americans accomplished.
To: Red Jones
No problem. Its not for everybody. As it is, I now live in Miami, which is more of an acquired taste than New York. I love the regional diversity of this country and have visited 25 states. It is my opinion that such PC idiocsy is happening all over the place, unfortunately.

I could care less what ethnic origin they were.
The fact is they happened to be white and should be depicted as such in order to truly be a memorial of the actual event. If they were black etc I would feel the same way.
I'm sure there is some other way to honor the role of other races and sexes in the WTC aftermath.
