UK PRESS TURNS BACK ON USA: MIRROR DECLARES 'THIS WAR IS A FRAUD'
The tide of international media opinion is dramatically turning against the US-led War on Terrorism if Monday headlines in London prove any indication.
"THIS WAR IS A FRAUD" splashes the MIRROR [circulation 2,149,422] in large font on Page One.
"The war against terrorism is a fraud. After three weeks' bombing, not a single terrorist implicated in the attacks on America has been caught or killed in Afghanistan," rips the paper.
'CRITICS OF WAR TACTICS TURN UP THE HEAT ON US" leads the FINANCIAL TIMES.
"BLOODY SUNDAY PROVES A TEST FOR US RESOLVE" headlines the INDEPENDENT. "The US government insisted yesterday that its Afghan campaign was going according to plan, despite repeated bombing errors including the killing of seven children as they ate breakfast at home in Kabul."
"BOMBING MAY STOP FOR RAMADAN AS SUPPORT FOR WAR FALTERS" fronts the DAILY TELEGRAPH.
Murdoch's TIMES jabs "a 'three-week wobble' over the direction of the conflict."
Impacting...

Even if it is true, so what? When the British tabloid press (that includes most of the newspapers in London, mostly sensation mongers) can concentrate and be patient for results for more than a few weeks at a time, thats when I'll know its time to start worrying.

I knew this beforehand.

As for Murdoch, his media empire dutifly repeats his opinions, if the editors want to keep their jobs. Murdoch's opinions can change with the wind.

I was watching a bbc show the other night and the reporter was on the front line of the northern alliance..you could see the taliban front line in the distance... everyone was just hanging out watching bombs fall in the distance and they wern't that impressive. The reporter said that the American bombing seemed to be very accurate. He also said that the NA and Taliban dont like to move their lines because they dont like digging new trenches!!! He said that you will hear how there has been intense fighting and the battle lines moving back and forth and it simply wasn't true.
And from the looks of it the NA appeared to be just sitting around watching fireworks or looking for planes ...they did not look ready for combat!!
This was the best coverage I've seen of the war!

British tabloids=Big Deal. It's only been three weeks people! If they can't take that, just wait 'til it's time for Iraq! Sheesh! It took four months before Doolittle made the first retaliatory strike against Tokyo. C'mon!

I'll tell you this..
If the U.S. stops attacking for this Ramalamadingdong bull$&*t, We'll have every right to assume that it is just a bunch of hookum.
Eventually, Bush will have to drop the Airborne troops in to systematically terminate hostile individuals. Janet Reno's Delta Force just ain't gonna cut the mustard.
So far, this whole deal is getting lukewarm reviews in our house.

yes, if we really want to win this were going to have to send in ground troops and yes, some of our people will die. This has to be done. These guys will get ahold of a nuke sometime in the future if we dont do enough now. We might have to loose a few thousand now so we dont end up loosing a few million a year from now. Its simply something we have to do.

The whole world waited patiently while it took SIX MONTHS just to set-up the Gulf War. Now they are impatient after this brief time. The media has changed since then, many more cable news networks & all far more intrusive, and that is what is directing this attitude. Plus the Clinton Era, when all things Republican were & are still automatically trashed. I recall lots of understanding of Clinton's troops hitting the Chinese Embassy, caravans of refugees, and many civilian areas in Belfast & all around Serbia. Even Kosovo. Do you believe the people themselves agree with this attitude of "too slow", "failure", etc, or is it all media rhetoric?

I couldn't find this story at the online site of the UK Mirror. But I did find this in one of their stories;
"The Mirror is fully supportive of our Prime Minister at this desperately difficult time. And we will be totally behind our brave armed forces as they prepare to go into battle.
But we can't help wondering who at this precise moment is winning this "war".
Us, or bin Laden?
To: dighton
No kidding. Three weeks and they are ready to call it off!! Talk about going wobbly. My only hope is this is just the London press - very left for the most part. However, seems even on this side of the pond many feel the same way. It's pretty sickening to see. Let's hope we have a good week with some "progress" for the damn lemmings in the press pool. I swear we would never have prevailed in WW2 if we had TV and cable back then.

It took four months before Doolittle made the first retaliatory strike against Tokyo. C'mon! Not the best analogy due to the fact that the Japanese had a better Navy at the time and especially since some of the most powerful, albeit outdated, ships in the US Fleet were wiped out at Pearl Harbor.
The Taliban are a bunch of barefoot goat humpers driving around in pickup trucks. Mohamad Atta sat on his mothers lap til he went to college.

I'm not too familiar with UK papers ... but is the Mirror a tabloid?

I wonder if the owners of http://www.etherzone.com/ know that someone lifting their content, logo, and name, and apparently sticking their own ad content onto the http://www.mtco.com/~ether/news-portal.html site, Mr. "newsperson"?
If not, just found out.

The world's most powerful propaganda machine, the US media monopolies, don't know why we need to fight these terrorists. These same people would not take sides during WWII. Hitler and Usama are very much alike.
History will record the utter failure of today's arrogant journalistic community, 80% of whom don't believe in God and thus have no need for personal accountability, or guilt based on lazy investigating, acting as PR agent for the enemy or just plain lying for personal political purposes. If these cowards can't take the heat of reality, they do not deserve their jobs. Give the jobs to those who are willing to do the hard work required and understand the importance of this fight.

Last Saturday at the Spokane Washington Airport a 72 year-old woman had her suitcase taken apart down to the lining in her suitcase, she had every item in her purse taken out not once but twice, she was also patted down. Her crime that made them suspicious of her---she changed the day of her airline ticket. WAKE UP PEOPLE!! This is about getting us into the New World Order!! It is a way to take away our rights for our own saftey. This attack could have been prevented. They allowed these terrorist to proceed with this attack by allowing them into the country and then ignoring many sources that tried to warn them.

I don't know exactly what to make of this article, except that the British media in general hasn't been particularly friendly to the US for years. Socialists hate success.

I'm sorry about the seven children (if this is even true) although I knew the peaceniks would invoke the name of children some time in their attempt to discredit our great nation's defense of itself. I'm sure killing children was not intentional! This is war. The innocent sometimes get killed/wounded in war. That seems to be the unfortunate fact. Are we idiots that we don't know this, and that it would turn anyone with a single functioning brain cell against the effort? Come on, grow up.

Most of the papers in the UK are tabloids. The same thing in Ireland. They love scandal and sensation, it seems.
