UN condemns US food airdrops in Afghanistan
The News: Jang (Pakistan)

October 16, 2001GENEVA
: A UN-appointed official, dealing with hunger, on Monday condemned US airdrops of food rations in Afghanistan as a catastrophe for humanitarian aid and warned that the US was effectively feeding Taliban fighters. Jean Ziegler, UN special rapporteur on the right to food, said the airdrops of food by the same military force dropping bombs on Afghanistan undermined the credibility of humanitarian aid. Aid deliveries needed to be supervised on the ground, he said. "I must condemn this operation, it is totally catastrophic for humanitarian aid, for all the extraordinary work that the UN agencies and ICRC and Medicines Sans Frontiers are doing," Ziegler said.

Aid deliveries needed to be supervised ....

Gatekeepers of humantitarian aid. Further evidence that the UN and these NGOs are not really in the business of helping people, but extending their power, influence, and control over people.

This just goes to show that the US needs either to stop funding the UN or get out of the UN altogether.

Afghanistan as a catastrophe for humanitarian aid and warned that the US was effectively feeding Taliban fighters.

How are they going to eat when they're all dead?

Some people.

Jean Ziegler, UN special rapporteur on the right to food

I can hear him/her now, "How can these poor victims of US imperialism eat if I'm not there with my entire staff to administer the program?"

Well guess they don't get no more food. What, this guy thinks we'll stop dropping bombs? Somebody show him the 911 footage. The food is optional, the bombs are mandatory.

If you're not with us, you're with the terrorists. With Syria now on the UN Security Council, any American who puts any faith in the UN is a fool and a traitor.

This guy ain't seen nothin' yet. Wait until we've uprooted the Taliban. I suspect Bush has it in mind for the UN to bring up the US's rear, and let them do some nation building for a change.

Ahhhhhh....of course it will be with dozens of UN 'workers' with tens of UN 'supervisors' that will be supported by hundreds of bureaucrats back in the UN castle.

Why doesn't the UN simply spread the rumor that the US is airdropping food contaminated with anthrax.

Or better yet, that the food, even the peanut butter, is laced with pork fat.

Come on, UN - use some imagination.

The relief leaders fears two things: - Someone is moving in on their turf. - Something might cut into their fundraising. - The US Army will prove to be more efficient at feeding people than the "professionals" are. Perhaps Local 306 of the International Brotherhood of Humanitarian Aid Workers can call a general strike. The picket line forms on the Pak/Afghan border, gents!

Outrageous that this irrelevant character, this 'official' of a non-governmental, parasitic agency, has the nerve to 'condemn' airdrops of food:

***Doesn't he care about those innocent people?

***Doesn't the UN & this obscure 'official' know that what the US does is none of their business!

***Odd that the UN just got some cash from the US & then this sniveling bureaucrat f-rts by the mouth some nonsense!

Its disgusting that the UN now feels emboldened to bite the hand that not only feeds, but houses, pampers, props up and generals looks out for it in every conceivable way!

(to re-hash an old military legend), How the UN Operates

Once there was a very poor and starving country. The UN decided that something must be done, so they sent a volunteer worker in to feed the people.

But how could she feed the people without food? So the UN contracted with food warehouses to supply the food.

And how could she feed the people without a way to deliver the food? So the UN hired some very expensive air transport companies.

But who would supervise all this humanitarian aid? So the UN hired managers and beaurocrats. And who would coordinate their activities with local governments? So the UN hired a fleet of diplomats.

Someone needed to keep the books and handle correspondence, so the UN hired lots of clerks and secretaries. And all of these people needed to be paid and have benefits, and of course there must be lawyers, and so on, and so on.

Now Kofi Annan saw the budget for feeding this poor country, and it was huge. And Kofi demanded that something be done immediately to cut this bloated beaurocracy.

So they fired the volunteer aid worker.

Well, with Thanksgiving approaching we thought we'd fatten up the Taliturkeys before they meet Allah.

"'I must condemn this operation, it is totally catastrophic for humanitarian aid, for all the extraordinary work that the UN agencies and ICRC and Medicines Sans Frontiers are doing,' Ziegler said."

Huh? Extraordinary work? The UN? ROFLMHO!

EXCUSE THE S**T OUT OF ME. Just how the hell is our feeding anyone "Catastrophic for humanitarian aid and all the other agencies"? Does this mean that they can keep feeding people at their rates and that we are only putting more food out? Who cares if the bad guys are eating, it onlymakes them fatter and easier to hit.

The UN's right. We should be air dropping chef's to personally prepare the food on the ground and to tell the Taliban: "No, No, No! No food for you!"

Waiters would be a nice touch too.

warned that the US was effectively feeding Taliban fighters.

Let me see if I can follow his logic. If we drop food form the air, where anybody can pick it up, only the Taliban will get food. If we deliver it on the ground to the governing authorities (who happen to be the Taliban) we can be sure the food will get to the people and not be eaten by the Taliban.

Not logical, which means he is either illogical, or has some ulterior motive in making this statement. Perhaps he is just upset because the food packets are marked as comming from the USA instead of the UN.

Yes, they want control and power. They think they are doing good works, but when they lose power and control they show their true colors.
