ABC

Jennings was talking to George Stephanopolous, who claimed that flight 800 was brought down by terrorists. Anyone else see this? Also heard someone else make this claim earlier today.

Sounds like the government could be opening the gates on this one as added ammunition for an attack on a terrorist nation.
I smell a nation with ships, anti-aircraft technology, and contacts with terrorists.
Iran or Iraq. I vote for Iraq.
Watch out.

Better to disregard anything this pathetic self-serving twerp has to say. As long as he had his place in Clintonia, he was willing to be complicit in it's grotesque chicanery. Just kept his mouth shut and sipped mint juleps on the south portico. Now he's more "objective". It's having guys like this as commentators that is driving the networks ratings into the toilet.

Where the H**L has George been the past five years? He waits until NOW to say this?
To: opinionator
Yes, he used the word, "bombing." I caught that when he said it, too. Don't know if he really knows that it was a bombing or if it was just a fuzzy recollection.
To: opinionator
He'll deny he ever said it tomorrow.
To: opinionator
I caught that today as well! Stephi was throwing out a string of terrorist attacks that the US/US interests have suffered in recent history and said made reference to TWA Flight 800 and said that it had been bombed or blown up. Slip of the tongue revealing secrets long suppressed?

I will find it easy to believe it was the same hand. The problem is identifying who's hand. Never have we needed more self-discipline, in order to make the right move, strike the right enemy. I believe anyone who could put this together is smart enough to bury their involvement. It won't be the most obvious answer.

Bankrolled by China.....with our dollars..... I am not qualified to speak on any of this, so I will.
I have reached the conclusion that this action has been in the works for years, and maybe a decade. This is not a bunch of nickel-dime terrorist who woke up one day and decide to raise a little hell.
People were put in place, policies were altered, and huge amounts of money had been raised. People in both high and low places have been making things happen for a long time and this morning was just the end (maybe) result.
Were rogue pilots planted? Were flight crew personnel corrupted? Had our airport security systems been widely infiltrated? The trmendous amount of coordination would have required years of planning, training and education. Only a widely concerted effort could have accomplished such an effort.
During the Clinton administration, security was essentially non-existence. Was this part of the prerequisites? Was the China-gate part of this? Was the dive in the DOW about this? (money manipulation from abroad).
In a culture that appeals to the lowest of humankind, it has always been necessary for them to employ less than professional assistance to pull off their plots. These people often deal in drugs and other sundry activities to support their lifestyle. These people draw a reasonable amount of attention from our trusted resources. Terrorists have always been replete with loose lips. So why were we not aware of a plot of this magnitude?
I believe this was not a terrorist attack but an invasion from without. I suspect China and believe they are playing us against the middle-east so they can benefit from the spoils. I also think Clinton played a role in staging this.
Everyone agreed that Clinton would not surrender his power after leaving the Presidency. Maybe he hasnt.

Did Georgie mess up in the heat of the moment and finally, and accidently reveal the truth? I wish I had heard that, but cannot stand to watch the guy.
To: opinionator
Yes, he said it. Something like..... "and the bombing of Flight 800"
To: opinionator
GS "claimed that flight 800 was brought down by terrorists. Anyone else see this? Also heard someone else make this claim earlier today." The earlier commentator was James Kallstrom, former head of the NY FBI office. He said, "It [the downing of TWA800] sure looked like a terrorist act." In fairness, an implication of his statement was that "subsequent to that, we became persuaded of the now-official story," but by then, the "cat was out of the bag" that one may reasonably consider that the evidence shows it was a terrorist act--that is, that it was a shoot-down.

Not from Steponallofus, but I heard Katie Couric say "when Flight 800 blew up..." which is the first time I'd ever heard anyone from the media use that terminology. She said it this morning on NBC Today show, whilst talking about the WTC.
To: MHGinTN
I don't think so. TWA800 made no maneuver that would indicate its pilot intended any act of terrorism.

A friend that works at Walmart said a couple of arab men came in last saturday or sunday to get trout license. one refused to give identification and said he did not have his passport with him, got angree and said he would worry about a license later. the other man gave a Dallas I.D. I thought you had to carry your passport with you. Struck me as strange that these two had traveled almost 200 miles to a tiny okla town to fish for trout and one did not have his passport to get license.

Terrorists learn from their mistakes, especially when an organization is running the show such as Bin Laden.
That passengers have been able to phone out from these aricraft tells you such may have occurred on 800 and the gov decided to stop the flight (splash it) before the bigger disaster. The terrorists learned from that to choose a flight(s) that would be arriving at target quicker and made this attack. We may be seeing a few more of these attempts until we get the full truth, then we can actually start to work on the real problems ... with the whole truth that is. Yes, a Navy missle may have taken the 8oo flight down or an Airforce A to A. [By the way, I'm a writer; we spend long days and nights living in our imaginations ... we're kooky enough in our thinking to jump to these conclusions before all facts are in.]

For what it's worth -
Three weeks ago, the overseas papers quoted Bin Laden as saying that a major strike against the USA was soon to come. That's a lot of warning.
Bear in mind that the FAA gave Bin Laden an engraved invitation with their selective ignorance of airport security, defying Congress with the GAO citing the FAA blatant failures. DOCUMENTED!
Ramsi Yousef claimed his group was responsible for TWA-800. Yet FBI's Kallstrom said there was no evidence. So, why did the FBI go fishing for Stinger remnants after the recovery effort?
Still, no appreciable increase to aircraft security.
Note the New York Times catch of the FBI involvement in the first WTC bombing.
The FAA allowed a smugglers paradise to be built in the new Guam airport terminal under Clinton. Look up "Project Bojinka" on the internet.
McVeigh's attorney, Stephen Jones, identified a middle-east connection in the Oklahoma City bombing which couldn't be denied. Yet he was massively blocked from investigating it or presenting it.
The WTC / Pentagon flying was that of a pilot who is current at the controls of a simulator, with practice at hitting the specific targets.
Among others, former FAA security agent, Steve Elson, has had a crusade against all of DC on the lack of airport security. There was warning galore - as usual.
Boston has a terrible record for airport security.
It's early, but it appears that the hijackers slipped knives past security - no big trick by the FAA 'special' standards. I'm guessing the hijacking was a team of 2 - 3 per aircraft.
The news footage of the WTC / Pentagon strikes strongly suggest:
1. The hijackers were skilled pilots, with an experience bias toward the 757/767.
2. The flying exhibits exact planning, practice and recent proficiency. At the airspeed of the strike, the eye-hand coordination demands would be too high for casual flying skill - with, or without, an autopilot engaged.
My guess is that proficiency was acquired in a stateside flight simulator facility, offering airliner models with high-level graphics capability, with the WTC & the Pentagon in the visual data-base. It's unlikely that a program such as "Microsoft Flight Simulator" could account for the flying skills required.
Relative to the FAA disregard for safety, evidenced by the GAO report on lax airport security, as well as other legitimate complaints - somebody needs to get the FAA honest. We're very likely to see this again.
The FAA has permitted a flimsy cockpit door which wouldn't keep anybody out. They've had cockpit break-ins before by sky-ragers; this isn't anything new.
Notice that in the history of bombings against the USA, there have been warnings galore in the newspapers, etc, but the security agencies always get surprised. Notice that there have been no changes.

BTW, I'd be interested in your opinion about the level of sophistication required for the attack. Some here claim it could be carried off with a group of "sixteen smart guys." From what I have heard, the level of precision involved and the targets chosen strongly indicate that this may be more the simple terrorism.

Earlier today I heard a news guy on a major network, maybe ABC, mention "the bombing of TWA flight 800".
