I had heard that they got traffic stopped just before the crash which saved lives. If you look at the video as the ship approaches & just before impact, you can see traffic going by on the bridge. If a vehicle goes in the water like that, it’s unlikely the occupants can survive - just getting out without something to break the window(s) is almost impossible, then you have cold water, trying to stay afloat/swim, etc. Since most cars have electric windows/door locks, once in the water, they don’t work. Also, since 2017, windshields and some driver/passenger windows are ‘laminated’. This keeps them from shattering (like a tempered window) and allowing people to be thrown from their vehicles. In vehicles with laminated windows, about the only way out is to break through the passenger windows or back window. If you look carefully in the corners of your vehicle windows, it will tell you if ‘tempered’ or ‘laminated’ ... it’s a life-saving detail about your vehicle to know.
