I know...I get it. I was in Data Processing starting in 1967.
I was an operator on IBM big rigs. We were gods back then.
Except for 10 years paying health claims, I had a nice long career in Data Processing.
Moved to the software testing side in 1984.
Yeah, I still call it Data Processing :)

and after that career, i have a hard time dealing with my cell phone. go figure.

I'm a bit younger, quasi-retired in my 50's. My earliest IT days were reading books learning how to program a Commodore 64 at the age of 14. I got a BS in CS and spent most of my career on the back-end data processing side. I've done some full-stack development for both front and back-end, making websites and PC fat clients by myself or in teams. Usually the bigger the team, the more liable I was to do either the data layer or middle layer design and coding.

One thing that's interesting for my generation of programmers IMHO is how the dot com bubble affected us when we were younger and liable to work for the many start-ups (many of which failed LOL). One small company I worked for for a few years had big companies invest in it, many times coming with requirements such as changing our DB system or our main programming language. I had to learn many programming languages and different DB nuances on the fly for my work within a few years. My friends working at other companies had the same experience. Since those days the changes have been slower at least as far as IT-specific changes. So I've been able to focus more on functional user business rules and needs and make software that better fits their real needs.

I had a PC Jr. w/ expanded memory. Bought from a place called InaComp. Sales people were wonks. They'd rather talk bits and bytes than sell...too funny.

Back then, I used to ground up build rather than buy. Today ? puh...I buy refurbished...I don't care anymore.

I worked for a software house from 84-94.
We built Health Claims processing systems - mainframe green screens- front and back end.
Anybody who was anybody in insurance had our systems
They hired people like me (10 years processing health claims)to protect the business.
Development was a real rigid process back then.
hiring from overseas changed all that.
Twice i trained indians to take my job. The last helped me retire.
Today ? need a user manual ? have to install the software to get at the user (Help) manual.

Did you make insurance software used by Trident in the 1990’s?

not that I recall, though we had a lot of small business clients for a different version...
we did mostly the Blues\Allstate\Travelers\Cigna among others. by the time I left, our software was at the end of it's shelf life. Never mind it is still being used in some places.
