No this is not 1932.

No parent wants their children anywhere near feral thugs

Feral thugs need to be locked up in training schools and either rehabilitated and civilized. Or throw away the keys.

Mark Twain, whose given name was Samuel Clemens, grew up in Missouri in a slave-holding family1. He served as a second lieutenant in a Confederate militia for two weeks, and his desertion led many to describe his loyalty to the Confederate cause as halfhearted.

> Samuel Clemens was once a Confederate soldier. <

I never heard that, so I looked it up. By golly, you’re right. Clemens was briefly in a Confederate militia unit. The unit was poorly equipped, and disbanded at the approach of Grant’s army.

Possibly. But I’m wondering if the kid was a true deviant in some way.

An adult, especially an older person or a woman, is unlikely to achieve anything by getting into a physical conflict involving youth. I was going to say “teens,” but every preteens can be bigger than I am.

It’s the culture the kids grow up in, where beating is the answer to frustration.

Way back in the 70’s a kid who was slightly different or a bit smarter was labelled/libeled a “prevert”.

If they were lucky a “swishy” would be the least of their worries.

I taught for many years at an urban high school. We had an incredible honors program. A student had to prove himself to get into it. For example, if you wanted to get into Honors Algebra, you had to have earned at least a B in your previous math course. But the honors classes weren’t “balanced” enough. So the requirements were largely eliminated. Come one, come all. I wonder if the same thing happened at this NYC “gifted” school.

The former mayor Bill DumblASSio, was campaigning hard to make the very few remaining gems of NYC high schools, the ones requiring passing a rigorous entrance exam, admit his beloved ghetto thugs. So these little criminals on the bus might have attended a "Gifted and Talented" program, but the participants may well have been your run of the mill ghetto thugs.

(4) Bring back the old Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

The CCC was strictly voluntary. Young men were eager to join because it provided lots of food a place to live and a small amount of money in exchange for hard physical labor.

The ‘gifted and talented’ students likely get plenty to eat from welfare and live in taxpayer-subsidized housing. They view hard labor as something akin to slavery and would view the pay as ‘chump change’.

Most of CCC salary was sent to the workers’ parents with only enough to buy cigarettes and a few extras. Any misbehavior risked expulsion from the program which was looked upon then as a bad thing.

Alas we are living in a different world and dealing with a completely different culture from the 30s.

It takes a hero (or maybe someone quite stupid) to break up a student fight these days. And not everyone is cut out to be a hero.

Newbie teachers in NYC public schools are firmly lectured that they are NOT to try and break up fights, that the union will NOT support them if they do. Haha, when does the union support the teachers for anything? They just take your dues and leave you hanging out to dry.

“He served as a second lieutenant in a Confederate militia for two weeks . . .”

Stop right there. Under the 14th amendment he cannot run for president unless . . . this, that, and the other.

Now they have gone and named a school on public property after his alter ego.

No wonder the kids can’t learn.

Without Democratic rule New York City could be the greatest city in the world.

There's Democrat 'rule' because New Yorkers vote them in. It would take a lot for NY to become the greatest city in the world.

[[We had an incredible honors program. A student had to prove himself to get into it.]]

That was back when life was sane, rational, fun, and enjoyable-

[[But the honors classes weren’t “balanced” enough. So the requirements were largely eliminated.]]

This is what became of our nation- the socialism really sucks now, and has ruined everything- Sanity has been tossed out the window!

Great idea!

I have a picture hanging on my wall 3’ from me of my Dad’s Tree Army” (thats what THEY called the CCC) company. It’s a group picture of about 100-150. They are sitting on bleachers.

My Dad worked on Mansfield Dam and Longhorn Caverns in Central Texas. After that, the war started and he went in the Army. ALL his pay went to Mom and Dad to feed all the 9 kids in his farmer family.
