Kind of a remarkable story from the Never Trump GOPe publication, National Review.

The move reminds me of Jeff Roe’s recent backing down and quitting so he can deflect blame and come back 4 years later to support another GOPe/Bushie/RomneyRat candidate.

Likewise, this is a way for National Review to concede the DeSantis Bull Run III battle was a total rout, then live to fight another day to profit by keeping the Uniparty, Globalism, and Destroy MAGA mission alive.

The Hard Realities Facing Ron DeSantis (National Review)

What took so long? These realities have been present for months.

The DeSantis campaign is at the "make the patient comfortable" stage.

Hopefully this cost the "donor community" enough to hurt, but probably not.

Why think about him?

Because DeSantis is Deep State’s.

Did we elect the POTATUS...?

Nuff said.

You shouldn’t say “Christie” and “Gain” in the same sentence...just sayin’!

"It does seem a bit heavy on the ink."

Reads like Jimbo cracked the label early in the day. An Apologia for having left Ron 2028 out of some podcast discussion no one listened to....

Yes indeed. We have to remember that although we look at that pile of $ longingly, it’s not “ours.” It is totally committed to the establishment elites and not upsetting any apple carts.

Hell, I don’t want to upset the cart, I want to burn down the apple farms.

I am a social conservative. I am also a fiscal conservative and a second amendment conservative, but I am a social conservative first and foremost. As such, I hate seeing the potential demise of Ron DeSantis. Although I wasn’t overly enamored with him, he was basically the only social conservative in the field. Neither Trump, nor Christie, nor Haley, nor Ramaswamy are social conservatives. Social conservatives in the Republican Party are like blacks in the Democratic Party. They are the red-headed stepchildren—the folks on the plantation—who are supposed to smile and vote for the chosen candidate. (Because, if you don’t, you’ll get somebody worse!!!) Things gradually get worse. It’s discouraging. Politics isn’t the answer. This world is not our home. Spending less time with politics and more time with family seems like a better and better alternative. Y’all have fun. Don’t expect too much from folks like me. I’ve grown tired of the plantation.

Christian Nationalism is the future but we’re probably in for a rough patch before we genuinely start (re)building that.

“What took so long? These realities have been present for months.”

take your pick:

1. they finally ran out of hope (and time) for a miracle turnaround ...

2. the handwriting on the wall became so ginormous that it could no longer be ignored ...

3. their puckered lips finally wore out from whistling past the graveyard ...

4. NR will be swinging their TDS support to some other slightly more promising RINO, probably Haley ...

Don't you understand the cleverness of the creators of the Ron DeSantis candidacy?

They GAVE HIM the "social issues" as a chew toy BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEM.

They were never going to sneak another Bush or Romney past the GOP base, but they think the GOP base is made up of gullible fools who care more about Gay Days at Disney than they do about foreign wars on behalf of alien peoples, open borders, crushing the US industrial base, use of debt as money (and counting growing debt as part of GDP), and so on.

The ultimate goal of the "donor community" is to make sure their interests are not affected, whoever wins the Presidency.

The synthetic candidacy of RDS was, as the Brits say, "too clever by half".

The purpose of National Review is to keep conservatives confused and distracted.

They have zero interest in taking on the powerful kleptocrats who rule DC and the Western World.

WHY didn't you include the last paragraph after posting nearly all of the article in its entirety?

" Henry Barbour, speaking to our Audrey Fahlberg, about the 2024 presidential race and the finances of the Republican National Committee: “If the election is about Biden’s miserable record, it won’t matter if we have $12 cash on hand, we will win. But for that to happen, Republican voters have to go with a new candidate, because if we nominate Donald Trump, the election is going to be all about Donald Trump. And we can have a billion dollars in cash on hand and lose just like we did the last few cycles.”

Everyone knows Trump is going to lose the general.

Again
