Reagan may not recognize it but he would do what Trump had to do with the way the dimwits are today, Reagan had dimwits he could deal with they are all gone now and the only way to deal with a dimwit is Just Say No

“The article seems to imply that Mitt Romney is a conservative.“

Remember when Romney claimed he was “severely conservative”? …it was like he thought conservatism was a punishment…. some sort of bitter tasting medicine we should swallow..

What a loser..

Yahoo is absolute lying garbage. If they say anything, the very opposite is true.

And for what it's worth, Reagan was far too nice.

Romney is clear that Donald Trump, who leads what he calls a “populist” and “demagogic” portion of the party,

The author is partially correct. MAGA is less conservative, more populist. That's a good thing.

The GOP of the 1980s celebrated Wall Street, the rich, and unfettered free markets. I recall classified ads in National Review selling "Eat the Poor" bumper stickers (a pushback on on the left's "Eat the Rich" mantra). Ironically, in the 1980s Trump symbolized that "celebrate the rich" GOP ethos.

MAGA is more oriented toward the working class, more protectionist, and less enamored of a globalist free market.

MAGA is also less celebratory of immigrants (legal or illegal) and less inclined toward entering foreign wars.

The conservatism of the 1980s is dead, and that's a good thing.

Round up the usual suspects: Romney, Cheney, Kinzinger. None of them were Reaganites. It’s a new trend, leftist media citing Reagan to bash Trump.

Liberals hated Reagan when he was president. They mocked him in any way they could, and were upset that nothing they said would stick to him.

Gee, I’m old enough to remember when Reagan was Hitler, and also mocked for his hair color.

I always love the following story:

A democrat came into Reagan’s office and read him the riot act for a full 20 minutes. After he left, Reagan said, “I wonder what was bothering him?”

Very right because in Reagan’s day, Trump style America First wasn’t necessary! It was already in effect!!!!!

Make no mistake, Ronald Reagan would fully back Donald J Trump to the hilt. And then some.

“Romney is clear that Donald Trump, who leads what he calls a “populist” and “demagogic” portion of the party, is to blame.”

And that is the major dfference between Reagan and Trump. Reagan was more like Bush in trying to unite the parties, (failing), and Trump is telling the liberals to go suck an egg. Romney wants kumbaya and Trump wants success instead of mediocrity. So they differ. Trump has courage to repair and change for the people, Romney is a coward who uses the people for time spent and a paycheck.

That is correct, it is the LEFT that has shifted.

Since the left said that Reagan was “literally Hitler” then why would they have a problem with Trump allegedly straying from literal Hitler?
