The defense scoundrel wants to trick a weak-minded juror into believing that there is reasonable doubt that a 14 year-old girl had sexual relations with the accused, after which she had the bad luck to be beaten to death by someone else after the defendant left. There is zero evidence of that — the lawyer is just channeling Mista Johnny.

Chilling.

In 1950 I lived in Honeoye Falls, about 17 miles from Rochester (Monroe County) when the body of a girl, about 14 years old, was found in a woods not far from her home, as I recall, raped and shot to death. It was then a devastating occurrence to all.

I believe this old crime bears resemblance to this one being tried, for I believe the girl had been walking home from school when it was likely she had been accosted and the crime done to her. The similarity is that the news of the event commanded a great deal of the county's attention in the two newspapers and the radio stations (WHAM being one of them), following the investigation quite intently, then slowly tapering off over a period of time. I don't recall that the perpetrator was ever found or the investigation ever successfully terminated.

I'm mentioning this because at the time I was of the same age as the victim, a oeriod of development when a teenager is very impressionable, and the lack of a fear-diminishing solution by authorities left my soul very troubled lest such a crime, such as my being kidnapped and killed, could be easily be done by some unknown person with the intent to carry it out. In this irrational but really felt agony, my reliance of protection by the presence of alert and able parents and law-enforcement officers simple evaporated, and I had great trouble of even relaxing enough to gain a restful sleep.

Remember, that was a time of our semi-rural culture in which--because of the peaceful tenor of our surroundings--we did not even need to lock our home doors or of our vehicles when leaving them for the short whiles of going shopping or to church or visiting a neighbor a few miles away.

So, on whom could I rely to prevent such an unanticipated deadly event from happening? (rhetorically occurring to the maturing child's mind)

That kind of irrational neurotic fear left me as I grew older and more capable for my own security; but now, even some 70+ years later, that period of trial still comes to mind. I believe we all ought to be aware that the quick successful resolution of such a emphatically publicly broadcast event is still of intense concern to the observing children of the community.

? What a great relief to the Monroe County folks that the criminal has been found and will not escape the justice which he deserves. (One hopes that society's response will put restraint into the wrong-doer.)

============

Also, as a companion thought, it is exactly the effect that every determined terrorist wants to instill into the watching public, and that is the elimination of the certain confidence one ought to have in the goodness and protectiveness of one's society and its governing officials; and if that momentarily fails, of one's own preparations and personal armament to maintain a peaceful existence.

I believe that the portion of our populace that wants to deprive every individual of the God-given right to keep and bear arms is a community of terrorists who wish to inflict their harmful will on a free republic of liberty-loving law-abiding citizens.

What do all y'all think of this? Eh?

I wholeheartedly agree with your last sentence. But I understand that I am in the minority.

We moved to the states right around the time when they had the “double initial”murders of young girls Carmen Colón, Wanda Walkowicz and Michelle Maenza. I also went to the same school as Kenneth Bianchi, the Hillside Strangler before he moved to CA. I was the same age as those girls.

“What do all y’all think of this? Eh?”

I think God has turned His back on America and Satan is roaming freely. Evil is everywhere. We have to be hyper-vigilant ALL the time.

God didn’t turn His back on America; America turned its back on Him. I think He would be more than willing to turn to us again. Luke 15:11-32
