While I don’t share the same optimism as Megan, I would point out that Putin has “lost” by his own terms in November 2021 to Feb 2022.

he wanted a “demilitarized Ukraine”, a “neutral Ukraine”.

That is not going to happen - he has on the contrary really boosted Ukraine’s identity. They see that they have to fight to survive as an entity distinct from Muscowy
