I doubt it. The subtext here in this or any article that comes out here that deals with this most terrible time in American history is invariably about one thing: The South seceding from the Union in order to maintain an economic system based on the use of slave labor. The Confederacy make this quite clear in it's constitution.
No one is debating slavery. And no, I doubt the leaders of the south (aside from Lee) would have been forgiving. That still is not the context of the article.
Time has moved on. Whatever animosities over race that existed in this country had mostly been gotten over. But now there are those deliberately ginning up new hatred, & telling lies about our history, to create a new civil war. And in so doing they hope to transform us into something quite different, with most of us ending up serfs.
We should not be destroying ourselves over this stuff. We should not be letting Leftists do this to us.
As a former leftie I've tried to tell conservatives that we're not engaged in a boxing match abiding by the Marquis of Queensbury rules. This is a bar room brawl with the lights out and the Left always plays dirty and plays for keeps. Sean Connery put it best in "The Untoucheables''. "When Capone puts one of yours in the hospital you put one of his in the f'ing morgue!''.
