I had no idea Joy was that old, but I never watch the show, I just see sound bite clips on the Fox News Evening shows.
Neither the AK nor the AR are the weapons that faced off against each other in Vietnam. The AK has gotten a lot more accurate with development and it tends to be more reliable with no care, which was kind of the point.
Remember, the AK wasn’t originally developed as a main service rifle. It was originally designed as a replacement for the PPSh and similar *submachine guns*.
It's when the term "Fudd" originated. Military-style firearms were much more of niche product back then.

Indeed. When I purchased my first firearm from a colleague in the 1980s (FFL licenses were much easier to obtain) I asked about an AR15 and he told me, "You NEVER want the police to find one of those in your house! They will think you are nuts!"
Colt still held the patents so they were more expensive (relatively) than they are now. (A gallon of gas was $1.15, a dozen eggs $0.79 cents and AR15s were $550.00.)

This is similar to the idiots this morning on WEEI Sports radio station in Boston calling the Maine shooters weapon an ASSAULT RIFLE.
They really do not know the difference.

It is a lack of knowledge. They think every AK rifle or AR rifle is a fully automatic machine gun. They do not even realize that a rifle like that is illegal for 99.9% of the public to own.
