It's also the same organization that protected closeted wrestler Pat Patterson when the "ring boy" scandal broke in the 1990s. It involved allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation of underage boys who worked as ring crew members for the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE.) Among those named in the scandal were WWF officials Patterson, Mel Phillips, and Terry Garvin (not the same Terry Garvin who wrestled as a member of the Fabulous Freebirds.) All three were dismissed from the organization, but Vince McMahon quietly brought back Pat Patterson, who was later inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.
