"It's too bad TMSC didn't take advantage of an opportunity to locate in a place with existing expertise in the business"

There are plenty of fabs in Arizona.

But then there is the political corruption to consider....

People around the globe are choosing other employment or retirement instead of working in a “manufactory.”

Letting Japan and Korea shipyards maintain and repair our Pacific Fleet is a lot smarter that taking them all the way back to the West Coast.

I would tend to believe your take. Though I also have little doubt that China may well have a lot to do with TSM’s actions. IMO, TSM, meaning their plant and facility, is the crown jewel of what China wants w/Taiwan...over and above, certainly equal to their cultural rhetoric. I hope to high heaven there exists a way to disable that plant in the event of an invasion

I Imagine TSMC is doing what Nestle and Philips did during WW2..move their financial assets to the US. And the plant would probably be “nationalized” if China invaded Taiwan.

“Most chip production workers can be completely trained up in less than a month.”

Maybe not those from our school systems who are propagandized and “trained” on wokeness instead of being educated.

"...faced a shortage of workers with the "specialised expertise required for equipment installation in a semiconductor-grade facility."

Hogwash!

We all know that bidensky has been allowing the open sothern border to allow allow all those jobs, unable to be filled by U.S. citizens, to be filled...

Well TSMC is, as I said, the crown jewel and probably highest value-added element of Taiwan’s manufacturing capabilities.

That plant and machinery therein cannot be moved on a moments notice, but it can be disabled in ten seconds if somehow somebody can pull the PROMs. Along with our co-imgainings, I’d further imagine China will in no way tolerate the dismantling of TSMC in preparation for a move. Have you seen a pix of their factory/plant? It’s enormous.

It’s a national security issue. If Taiwan falls to the Chinese, the planet is in deep Shiite.
