Saw a big Baldwin in Norfolk Virginia back about 1960 hauling freight through the middle of town. It may have been the last one says a dim memory.

And on my list of things to do is go to town and fill 6-7 propane tanks. That’s on top of the two in-ground tanks. I like my propane now that I’ve gone exurban. Hank would approve.
Will get some non-ethanol gas for the boat on that trip as well. Love my hitch receiver rack for stuff like this, nothing goes inside the vehicle.
I haven’t run this one much. Complicated story. And I’ve only had it for two years. There has only been one or two times when I even thought about running it due to an outage. The local utility is pretty good.
On my old house, I had an infeed box on the side of the house, and a panel interlock setup. You couldn’t close the generator breaker in the panel unless the main was open. You couldn’t close the main unless the generator was open. Cord connection from the generator to the infeed box.
My new living situation is, well, slightly complicated. Eventually I want to do a serious addition with a whole house generator. If we have an outage now, I’ll make it up as I go along. I’m a decent DIY electrician with a much stronger than average background.
These jerks pushing these regs probably live in multistory apartments or condos, and have no clue about living out in the hinterlands.

I’ve got a nearly 25 year old generator that probably needs a carb rebuild and a few other things. And I’m getting a little old to be pull starting a generator. Will probably rebuild and dual fuel it and give it to my son.
Oh, and get yourself a little plug in battery tender to keep the battery happy. You don’t want to be pull starting this thing.
Thats good you are a DIY guy, I’m not. My luck I’d burn my house down. Never thought about needing one until the ice apocalypse we had in Texas a couple of years back. I need to get something before $h!t for brains gets his way AND before I retire. If that is even possible under the current set of idiots.

I thought that our generator was close to giving up the ghost 10 years ago. I had to buy a new pull starting assembly and I took the carburetor apart and put the pieces in a Harbor Freight ultrasonic cleaner in a detergent solution for about ten minutes, then rinsed them off, put them back together and it ran like it was new again.
After that I converted it to tri-fuel using a regulator and a venturi assembly that I designed myself that sucks the natural gas from the regulator and mixes it with the incoming air. You can purchase similar assemblies, but mine seems to do a little better job.
They say the reason to ban generators is user safety, not climate control. I guess the warning labels aren’t enough - so they need to ban them.
I’m guessing there are a LOT more deaths for folks using ladders (even with all of THOSE warning labels), so they should probably focus on banning ladders first “for our own good.”
In my neck of the woods during power outages there are always a few deaths where people (usually Asian) bring their charcoal grill inside the house to eat and cook.
Easy to do when they've turned our young males into eunuchs. That's why you see Andrew Tate in big trouble right now.
Used to be a substantial number of Paul Bunyan chainsaw injuries after a hurricane or ice storm.
Had to look that number up - about 250 chainsaw deaths each year (compared to the 100 portable gen deaths).

I was in a discussion regarding the evil oil companies and the 100 billion dollars in profit they take every year (or whatever it was). The profits based on a percentage run at about 7 to 10% over the years (1990 to 2022). Banks are at about 18%, and pharmaceuticals are at about 25% over the long run. Not including the spikes (banks and pharma) and losses (oil) had during Covid.
Well stated. It was not my intention to minimize your digging for details. As a long time trivia fan, it continues to amaze me how we can find so much info via internet search.
