And oddly enough, Kafka still considered himself a socialist his entire life, and even throughout the nasty illness that killed him at age 40. He starved to death as in indirect result of tuberculosis when his throat swelled closed. Even twenty years after his death, medicine had advanced to the point, where he could have easily been saved.
