RE: Iraq, it isn’t clear what “lie” they’re talking about, because the story that Iraq had no NBC weapons was itself A LIE.
It’s also A LIE to claim Bush claimed he was invading because Saddam had NBC weapons. He invaded because Saddam thwarted all international efforts TO CONFIRM his claim that he did not. Saddam might have been motivated to prevent it being discovered that he categorically DID NOT have an active nuclear, chemical or biological weapons program because the myth that he did was a cornerstone of his military deterrence. However, to the outside world, those signs and symptoms would have been identical to a campaign to conceal the fact that he in fact DID HAVE an active NBC program.
