Just speculating here, but had Trump actually served in the military, he'd have a different view, i.e. more credulous of certain officers.

He could have learned a lot by reading Once an Eagle by Anton Myrer, a novel used in the curriculum at the Army War College. It's main storyline is the interaction between Sam Damon, a "soldier's soldier", and Courtney Massengale, a West Pointer who uses political connections to stay a step ahead of Sam.

I read the novel as a butterbar in Germany. I lived too far from post to get the signal of AFN, so I lived without TV for over 4 years, thus plenty of time for reading. I aspired to be like Sam Damon, though I fell short IMO.

I never served above Battalion level, which I'm thankful for. When I was on Battalion staff, I had to deal with too many field grades who were PITAs.

My career ended as a Captain, with 8 years active duty. I knew I'd never make Major, and I was fine with that (before Desert Storm, the promotion rate to Major was about 60%).

The military would be better off if at least half of current generals/flag officers were involuntarily sent into retirement. That's where the sclerosis is in the military, they're mostly focused on fighting the last war.

I served with several officers who would wear stars that were great leaders. They set the example for us, and I have personal recollections where they had my back when I ran into conflicts with a few superior officers.

Surely someone born right after WWII who went to military school might have a respect for the military that later generations might lack without there being anything “homoerotic” about it.

Re: Military Officers

Trump spent five years in military school (very near West Point) when he was growing up, so maybe there is a connection there.

I have no problem with Conservative military officers in a Republican Administration.

But, when Trump deliberately reached out to an Obama General, that displayed pure political ignorance, in my opinion.

My own observation on Trump is that he spent his entire adult life in friendly business or social relationships with hundreds of people from the Political Left.

He had no idea those folks would turn on him like crazed wild animals when he became a Republican President.

On the other hand, Trump was smart enough and experienced enough to get elected in 2016 and (in my opinion) 2020, and no one else in the Republican Party had a clue how to do that.

These generals set themselves up as the godlike powers over America.

We did NOT elect the generals to decide on war including nuclear war, or to make secret calls to the Communist Chines “friends” and “counterparts” to decide to overrule an elected President Trump or not.

Such as....
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley admitted Wednesday that he would give his Chinese counterpart a heads up if the US launched an attack against Beijing, during a second day of grilling on Capitol Hill that touched on his two reported calls to the Chinese general.

”I said, hell, I’ll call you.....” about one of his conversations with Gen. Li Zuocheng of the People’s Liberation Army.

Trump got completely handcuffed by the White House staff from the first week.

The only way to address it is reams of pink slips.

2 Points re: your comment:

First, I agree with what you said about Trump's descriptions of the people who betrayed him. That's one of his most unattractive qualities.

Second, I doubt Sigma males are in any military leadership positions. That said, as a fan of both Eisenhower and Patton, I concur with your assessment of both and wish Trump shared the leadership qualities you mentioned. But he doesn't.

Conclusion: We all wish that Trump was without blemish but he isn't. Sigma males sometimes (but not always) lack social skills. Trump certainly lacks a few. That said, Trump is a what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of guy. His outsider perspective is what gives him the ability to recognize what is wrong with our government and country and the clarity of mind to know what to do about it.

I believe Trump offers our best chance at saving our country at this time in history. He isn't perfect, but I believe he's the best man for the job.

Trump isn't reckless. He's blunt and plain-spoken.

There's a big difference.

Trust comes from credibility. If there is no credibility there is no trust.

I don't trust him.

Thx Rooster

Yes indeed. When it comes to people, you take the good with the bad. It’s true for us, as for Trump. Otherwise, who among us could keep a job? None of us is perfect.

Sometimes I use the example of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. One straight lace, and the other ill-disciplined. But they were teammates. Similarly, David Robertson and Dennis Rodman.
