Barack Obama promoted Kelly to three stars in 2011.

Ten months later, in 2012, Barack Obama promoted Kelly to four stars.

Trump, for reasons unknown, nominated Obama's four star General for Secretary of Homeland Security in 2016.

Eight months later, Trump, again for reasons unknown, appointed Obama's four star General as White House Chief of Staff.

In 2021, General Kelly publicly supported the Impeachment of Donald Trump.
