Robert Conrad… he did a lot of radio work. Yes he was plus-sized but not always - he was fit enough to be a P-38 pilot in WWII. Obviously not leading man material however and in old flicks he usually played the heavy lol.

Conrad, a voice made to command. I recall now my dad telling me about his service. I forget how often he would spend time pointing how people who served. It meant the world for a person of the WW deuce generation. I had one Uncle who was kicked out of Boot camp in 1942. All of the other males in the family treated him very differently until they day they/he died.
