Manchin has nothing to gain by a third party run for potus.

I think he might be running third party for the senate, the dems have pulling their support.

How do you figure that? Trump’s people aren’t going anywhere.

Manchin has nothing to gain by a third party run for potus.

If he could take 5% in key states in such a manner as to peel the votes off of would be Trump voters without hurt the Dem, he could solidify Dem support for his next Senate run, or the Cabinet position of his choice in a Biden cabinet.

That said, I don't think he's about that. I think he likes toflirt for attention, but not actually do anything that makes him open to attack. His persona doesn't travel well outside West Virginia.

It could be that he'll joke along with TDS types like Will for the flattery, but would never pull the trigger.

My belief has been Manchin has been gunning for the WH for a while, waiting for the pushback from the abject crazy of the dem party to be the “reasonable” path.

However it’s clear the party’s absolute whackadoo loud minority have the system completely rigged so will see

“The problem is the Democrat Party.”

The problem is the establishment party.

Yes, I see your point. I tend to think of those people as Democrats who are pretending to be Republicans.

Well, I'll tell you where they are NOT going - to the GOP convention.

Geez...w/ all the additional suitcases of cash a presidential run could result in, he would need a bigger boat.

Or monkeys could fly out of your butt. Lots of “could happens” could happen. Maybe.

“I doubt that and the election of 1912 is more appropriate.
And Trump WILL be the GOP NOMINEE; not on a BULL MOOSE PARTY line!”

Of course the GOP vote split that year thanks to Teddy Roosevelt running on the Progressive Party ticket (the actual name of the Bull Mooses). And the country ended up electing the other progressive running that year.

George Will has spent a career masquerading as a conservative. But he’s a Republican liberal and always has been. In 1980 he didn’t support Reagan.

since Dems are Dems no matter what, all his 3rd party bid will do is pull votes from the swing voters we will need......if the election system wasn’t broken.

>> How do you figure that?

It’s not a calculation from J. N., merely a fact-free sternly delivered ominous sounding opinion, with an irrelevant historical reference thrown in as an appeal to authority.

I’m gonna feel free to ignore it, as I’m sure you will also.

There aren’t enough ‘reasonable Rats’ left to allow him a route to the Rat nomination. Unless something like a Rat Black Swan event happens!

I know people that know Manchin, he wants to run for Prez and has wanted to for some time. That what his ‘maneuvering’ is all about, trying balance himself on that ‘moderate’ rail. However, the ‘rail’ got thinner and thinner making it impossible to do.

When an opinion piece like this turns up in WaPo, it means Manchin is being “courted” to launch an independent bid. Courted, in this context of course, meaning bribed to upset the electoral apple cart. I wonder what his price is.

Never happen. Manchin is a dem, and those people put the promotion of their party above all.

Manchin is a fraud. He don’t like to rock the boat. He ain’t “launching” anything.
