Hysteria overtakes the climate fascists. Goebbels would be so proud that his lessons were taken to heart and applied so assiduously.
Poor positioning of temperature recording devices, and total oblivion to the well-developed science of how water, water vapor, and ice play into the thermodynamics of temperature regulation of the entire planet. These people are not only nuts, they were poorly trained in the nuances of how to be a crackpot. Crackpots start with something at least plausible.

I think that I remember that episode!
At the end, it turns out that Gilligan had been innocently shifting the temperature sensor closer and closer to a sewage outlet which had been spewing warm sewage into the ocean, thus screwing with the Professor's readings!
