something like a 24 hr GI bug quickly ran through all my family members in Minnesota. Don't know if is the same, vomiting diarrhea, seems to be transmitted very easily.

Thanks for good general advice. I am always not to touch my mouth and eyes when outside the house. I always sanitize my hands when I get home. In 2016 I had a bad case (tested) of Salmonella, lost 5 pounds, good, but was miserable. I suspect I got it from eating store bought watermelon slices (contaminated food cutter?).

Thirty plus years ago I was at a national park large campout where about 5,000 people got shigella. We were told that at least 15 minutes of boiling water was needed to kill this strong bug. Also since people were using fresh stream water we were advised to use chlorox and tablets to purify water. Every day I gave my son a canteen of well Chloroxed water and told him not to drink water in any other camp or eat uncooked food. Neither of us got the bug, and this was “normal” shigella, not the drug resistant kind.

So, water discipline, and hand cleaning discipline, also be careful what and where you eat out.

Nope, worked as an infection control nurse for quite a while.
Soap and water after using the bathroom.
And, on the bottles of hand sanitizer it states that it does not work on e-coli and that washing with soap and water is most effective to kill the bacteria and germs after using the bathroom.
