There was a principle at stake. If an attack on British subjects was left to to go unopposed and unavenged it would have been open season for every tin pot dictator to have a go on our people and on our much more fundamental interests. The loss of prestige would have been fatal. Even a loss would have been better than doing nothing. Foreign enemies need to know that if Britain and Britidh people are attacked, it will cost them blood and treasure at the very least.
And as for the Falklands now, the Argies couldn’t even take the Falklands, never mind defend it afterwards. Their military is a joke. They font even have any combat jet aircraft. The British garrison alone has more firepower and capabilities than the entirety of Argrntina’s military.
