I have A gift of free straming all channel service. We don’t actually watch much there. American TV is Queers and Nwords
However, I also have Roku and almost all we watch is on there. There are lots of channels offering old TV and movies. Oner the weekend, I surfed for movies to be saved to a watch list.
I was flabbergasted at the numbers of movies offered. There seem to be literally thousands. Very very few seem watchable to me. Hollywood has produced an absolutely amazing number of really bad movies.
If you don’t follow, there are two great reviewers or show-biz reporters, “The Critical Drinker” (so far, except for “The Hobbit,” I have never disagreed with one of his reviews) and “Yellow Flash” on Locals.
Good to know. Thank you!
Good for you.
Seriously.
We use Hulu but I rarely watch anything. I mostly stream music to my stereo. My wife watches old shows, college football and some PBS history stuff. We got Paramount Plus and she binged every episode of Perry Mason.
“Tubi is almost unwatchable due to the number of repeated commercials.”
This hasn’t bothered me especially with Tubi. However, it does bother me in general.
I’m tired of seeing men kissing men, etc. during advertising breaks. It was especially bad during “Pride Month” on Hulu, which seemed to last eight weeks.
I like the series “Forever,” but find that commercial breaks greatly detract from the show.
We dropped the expensive Hulu + Live in favor of the less expensive Hulu. However, either way you get commercials. I bought a series from Vudu. You guessed it, commercials.
There are some paid services, where you can pay extra to watch commercial free. I may explore that option.
I’m considering ordering actual DVDs. I assume there will be no commercials.
Does anyone have experience using a DVR to record a streaming service? It’s been a long time since I’ve had a DVR, but maybe that would be a good way to go.
We’ve never had cable. Watch Pluto, YouTube and Amazon Prime. One or two shows on network TV. That’s all.
I travel pretty heavily for work so I see hotel cable systems. The content is absolutely boring and insipid. That’s a lot coming from me for I normally have very low standards.
What’s interesting is the old tv shows. I’m binging Hill Street Blues. In the early 80’s, they were dealing with Defund the Police, Election Fraud and a whack job tranny, all in one episode.
That’s actually not a new thing. Go back to the golden age of Hollywood and there was an ocean of bad b movies made. You just don’t see them much around these days. Mostly only the good stuff is rewatched. It falls into the saying that 90% of everything is crap although with the current woke world we live in that is approaching 100%.
Most TV shows need a “woke warning”.
Warning:
“This show was produced by perverts for perverts. If you are not a pervert we recommend you avoid this program.”
They may be free but you still get annoying commercials.
Kinda limited. we had 4 channels growing up and had to watch what they fed us.
Now we have 400 - PLUS! - and none much better than the Paint Drying Channel.
It certainly is. Assuming the average cable bill is around $100/mo, having 3.5 million people cancel their subscription will have a $4.2 BILLION annual impact on revenue.
Repeat this year after year and you can see why they are panicking.
It gets worse (for them).
I now watch most of my content on either YouTube or Rumble for free. I don't mind watching a few ads. Now it appears that Twitter will get into the streaming game and it will be either ad-based (free) or ad-free (monthly fee).
There's really zero reason to have cable TV anymore. Unless you actually like watching the blowhards delivering their fake news or live sporting events which have become dominated by in-your-face political correctness.
When you only watch what you want to watch, things change radically.
“Also Newsmax is free, not bad for the price.”
I agree. Two conservative networks to consider: Epoch times and Salemnow. Really excellent stuff. I have less experience with Fox Nation, but it looks good too. I think most have a combination of paid and free programming. It takes a while to learn one’s way around these TV networks.
Indeed. That was the most frustrating part of cable. I don't want any spanish language programs or sports. No CNN. Perhaps 1 new(ish) movie channel, but probably not even that. A channel of nothing but classic movies would be nice. I'd like a Looney Toons channel(easily doable given how many they have), and another that showed primarily Tom & Jerry, and other classic cartoons (No Disney cartoons because Disney is evil. One news channel of my choice (OAN or something similar). One weather channel that did nothing at all but weather. Wouldn't need anything else. Maybe a classic sitcom channel. I'd most likely end up with 10 channels or less.
I hate to use Bruce Springsteen but back in the 90s he was right on with this song
57 channels and nothing on
[Verse 1]
I bought a bourgeoise house in the Hollywood hills
With a truckload of hundred thousand dollar bills
Man came by to hook up my cable TV
We settled in for the night my baby and me
We switched ‘round and ‘round ‘til half-past dawn:
There was fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
[Chorus]
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
[Verse 2]
Well now home entertainment was my baby’s wish
So I hopped into town for a satellite dish
I tied it to the top of my Japanese car
I came home and I pointed it out into the stars
A message came back from the great beyond:
There’s fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
[Chorus]
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
[Middle 8]
Well we might’a made some friends with some billionaires
We might’a got all nice and friendly if we’d made it upstairs
All I got was a note that said, “Bye-bye, John
Our love’s fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on,”
[Chorus]
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
[Verse 3]
So I bought a .44 magnum, it was solid steel cast
And in the blessed name of Elvis well I just let it blast
’Til my TV lay in pieces there at my feet
And they busted me for disturbin’ the almighty peace
Judge said, “What you got in your defense son?”
”Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on,”
[Outro]
I can see by your eyes, friend, you’re just about gone
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
Fifty-seven channels and nothin’ on
