Charge at night while sleeping and most will never have to “stop to charge”.

Unless you're one of the tens of millions in the U.S. who lives in a dense area where you park on the street, often at a distance from your house or apartment.

The EV is part of a larger project to make my wife and me almost energy independent so that our retirement investments are less vulnerable to energy inflation from the “green” energy policy of the warmageedon cult Dims. We have a solar array and battery bank providing 90% of all the power we need in our now all electric house, including charging the EV.

That’s true, but most people are not aware that they are trying to get something that does even worse damage to this planet, and that was my point. 🙂

I think you are setting yourself up for disappointment. The real goal here is to destroy the nation. Your savings will all be taken from you. Once your saving are gone you can no longer keep your house because you won't be able to pay the taxes.

Apparently you think you are insulating yourself, but unless we all join together to defeat these tyrants, you and everyone else will have nothing, as they have stated outright. They are honest with that part of the statement.

However, with the remaining part of the statement, you will be happy, that's a total lie designed to make you comply peacefully.

After that you will most likely be exterminated unless they deem that you will make good slave material. To perform either, sexual gratification duties, or any physical labor that they, the elites, may need or desire.

I'm 100% on board with defeating the Dims. I'm not following you on what to do between now and then. As an analogy, I'm for fair tax and/or flat tax. Until I get that, should I quit using all of the tax credits and loopholes I can to my family's advantage? Of course not.

The same with trying to generate most of the power I need until we win the argument of ending the war on fossil fuels.

It's not just dims, as you call Democrats. It's the elites who want a One World Government that I am talking about. Democrats & RINOs are assisting the elites in obtaining their goal. We must understand what the actual threat really is, and that the threat is real not just some nonsensical conspiracy theory. It's a real conspiracy fueled by evil people. It's why you see the world becoming more tyrannical even though they speak of democracy and the need to save democracy.

While I said you will lose your house when you can't pay the taxes, the real issue is that they will steal your savings for claims it's needed to save the planet. Once your saving are gone they have nothing stopping them for taking your home after that.

The planned goal is to reduce the world's population to what they state are a sustainable number of humans. This is not just idle chatter. If you take it as that you are missing the only opportunity we have to stand up against this effort they have concocted and are now trying to carry out. We do after all outnumber them. But unless we all start seeing the reality we fail to find the need to join together to combat their plans.

This is exactly what the Bible is talking about with regards to the good vs evil struggle. We must join together and in addition we must bring the Lord back into the world.

Lets see. EV charging station in front of a restaurant. It will charge your EV to 80% (which most EV owners only charge to anyway) in 27 minutes. Which is far less time than you are going to be spending in the restaurant. And it very likely is free of charge.

But hey, if free fuel and a full tank when you leave dinner is not for you, who are we to question your judgment.

Now let me know which restaurants are going to fill your gas tank while you eat.

ICE vehicles are many many more multiples likely to catch fire than an EV.

According to the NTSB, ICE vehicles experience 1 fire per 19 million miles driven. EVs? 1 fire per 175 million miles.

Also, over 4,000,000 ICE vehicles have been recalled this year due to fire hazard, and owners warned to not park them near their homes.

This is why EV charging stations are generally located in commercial developments. Because people will take a pee break and get a bite to eat after 4 hours of driving while their car charges for 15 minutes.

Or, as mentioned in the OP, businesses will have them available as an enticement / value added item to earn your business.

Mine was multi faceted.

The big one is Teslas are just damn fun to drive. Fast as hell. And will blow the doors off million dollar super cars.

Compared to my ICE vehicles it costs almost nothing to operate.

And 3 it was actually cheaper than the ICE vehicles that were competing against it for my car buying dollars.

So after a cheaper purchase price, operating costs of under 3 cents per mile, and virtually no maintenance expenses it was a huge winner over Porsche, Audi, and BMW. Whose maintenance would have been quite pricey, and their 20 MPG or less would have been hella expensive compared to the Tesla.

Virtually no one ever has to “stop to charge” because they “need to”. At least not in daily driving situations. The only people needing to do that are on road trips that exceed the vehicles range.

She didn’t “go shopping for 27 minutes” because she needed a charge. She was shopping anyways and is now getting a full tank for likely free.

And while I am at the bar watching a game and eating chicken wings, my car is getting a full tank for free. And then I drive home.

You, on the other hand, on the way to the bar have noticed that your wife left the vehicle on E, so now you have to decide at what point do you make an extra stop to get gas. Do I get gas on the way to the bar or on the way home? And if on the way home, do you remember? Or do you get home and then realize you need to go get gas? And then do you decide to just do it in the morning on the way to work?

You might want to check YouTube where Teslas regularly destroy “super bikes” in drag races.

"Assuming one stop per week at a gas station that is a net savings of 40 days over a lifetime."

Ok. Let's play the game thoroughly...

Yes, lets...

Other assumptions:

That you will drive/own an electric car your entire "lifetime"

I'll give you this one, as EVs haven't been around in any real fashion for the majority of most peoples lifetimes. But soon, that won't be the case.

That you never have to travel over several hundred miles in one day.

Drive 250-275 miles, stop to pee, grab a bite and stretch legs, then 15 minutes later back on the road for another 250-275 miles. Whats the problem?

That you never stay overnight and have to charge it elsewhere

Is this related to the above travel question? If so, pick a hotel with EV charging, which will often be free. Wake up in the morning with a full battery and go.

That you never have to pull a trailer

This will be true for an overwhelming % of the driving population. Like 90%+. Hell. 70% of truck owners never tow a damn thing. But if towing things is a common and regular occurrence, or even a requirement, then buy the right tool for the job. Just like everything else in life.

That you aren't driving in sub-zero temperatures

My friends in Buffalo NY, Rochester Minnesota, and several other cities in the north with brutal winters never complain about their Tesla's performance. And this winter, including the 6' plus storm in Buffalo, my friends who have the F150 Lightning aren't complaining either.

That you don't mind the depreciation of trying to sell a used car with a worn-out battery

Only time will tell on that as EV battery, particularly Teslas, should be good for in excess of 500,000 miles. But currently, its quite common for a used Tesla to cost more than a brand new one because you can have it today vs waiting months and months or possibly more than year.

And how is the resale value on a 20+ year old car with 280,000 miles and a quart of oil a week habit with a shredded headliner and a drivers seat that looks like a bear attacked it?

That you can charge your car without being hampered by electrical brownouts.

Luckily most of us don't live in the devolving shithole that is California and our governments are taking energy production seriously. Especially here in the Carolinas.

That the electric utility "allows" you to charge your car when you want

My utility provider doesn't have a clue what kind of car I have. Does yours require you to keep them abreast of such things?

Yes, please...

Yes, as mentioned, most people charge at home, and you asked, then why was she charging?

Many of the EV charging stations at commercial properties are free. If you went to the grocery store and there was a tanker truck giving free gas for customers, would you get some? Of course you would. Well, why shouldn’t an EV owner get some free fuel while doing a daily chore?

I take advantage of free charging whenever and where I can when I am out and about. Why wouldn’t I or any EV owner?

Thats the thing you are purposefully ignoring in the scenario presented that you are arguing against.

Hmmm. From the column:

“All Chevrolet Bolt electric vehicles are now recalled due to the risk of the high-voltage battery pack catching fire. At this time, GM is asking all Chevrolet Bolt vehicle owners to park their vehicles outside and away from structures, and to not charge the vehicles overnight.”

Oh.
