Looks liked leaked insider documents about how the company’s assets were calculated started a liquidity crisis when people started pulling their accounts. Basically, as an exchange, FTX was always supposed to have all deposits on hand. It was revealed they had instead leveraged their deposits something like 9x and were doing their own crypto trading. Everything was good until everything in crypto trading went south, then the scheme was exposed.
Suddenly there is not enough money on hand to honor the requests from people wanting their money back.
