Interesting! Was there any follow-up to assess the possible reason for the error?
they started doing monitoring ~18mos before i retired
i drove their program nuts as most of my time was spent reading and thinking before doing any typing, so most of my day shows no activity, then a flurry before noon and again at four
and it showed the same pattern if i was WFH or inhouse
my boss just laughed at the program
Which is going to destroy the cities first, and the domestic labor market second.
If you can do it remotely, it can be done in India for less.
(Listens to a thick sub-continent accent)
“You’re name is Steve?”
I have a memory from 1st Grade when I decided to tell my teacher about some other kid doing something. She said, “Nobody likes a tattle-tale. Sit down and mind your own business.”
That stuck.
“it can be done in India for less.”
Translation:
“Dut duh lass?”
;-)
Did it get done? Monitored.
LOL
I’ve been working from home way longer than it was ‘covid fashionable’ (15+ys) I was the first remote worker for our company, and there were many nay-sayers at the office who felt I should not have been employed. Well, when it came down to it, who was the one who answered the phone after hours and weekends, who addressed customer issues after 5:00, who notified depts of impending issues...not those going home at 5:00. It takes a good work ethic to work from home and the ability to know when to walk away from the computer. Then the plandemic hit, boom, everyone was working from home. Some actually did perform, while many others took advantage of no oversight. I welcomed my employer to monitor my activity online, if I didn’t perform my duties there would be a lot of customer dissatisfaction. Those who are advocating for not allowing employers to monitor their paid employees are the ‘participation trophey’ winners grown up who have too much power and too little worth ethic.
I am retired, but where I worked it easy to monitor work online—and yes, it was monitored—by fellow team members as well as supervisors.
All of our work product was post online for team and supervisor viewing as needed—every day.
We could also see the work product of “related” teams.
It worked great for everyone.
Errr, yeah, if I didn’t do my job, millions of people would notice.....
am i a bad person for automating my work at home? i really only do about 10 hours of work a week, but my automation still makes me a top producer, i did have to ‘slow’ down my automation so i’m not doing 2-3x as much as my other co-workers.
i also have a mechanical mouse jiggler so that i always appear as ‘online’. i do sit next to my work pc, playing games on my personal pc, just in case anyone from work wants to talk to me.
Bkmk
You remind me of my nephew (that I have talked about in other threads).
He was a super computer geek by the age of ten.
After graduating from college he got a third (midnight) shift job at a Big Tech company in Boston.
He quickly automated all required tasks so that he could read and sleep all night.
He was very productive so of course the bosses kept trying to get him to accept a promotion (which would have put him on the day shift).
He refused those promotions for years.
Since he was well rested at night he was able to pursue his hobby of real estate flipping (buying dumps, fixing them up, and selling them) during the day....
The bosses are probably still trying to promote him.
;-)
Deep Staters really want to work from home with no supervision, don’t they...
They already made our union employees go back in to the office a few weeks ago. It’s only a matter of time....
Here is the link to the actual memo in question:
And here is a more detailed analysis of the memo:

FYI, I think screwing work from home is indeed on their agenda. Inner cities are in a panic over their tax revenue, because unless workers are FORCED into the liberal death traps, nobody goes there, and it’s killing their business and tax revenue. Far better for some of us worker drones to be killed by murderers released without bail.
