Yeah but PB was very boring. Very milquetoast.

On the contrary, I find him very exciting--his versions of Tutti Frutti and Long Tall Sally are my favorite.

Jerry Lee Lewis thread - and almost half the comments are on Pat Boone!

Can’t wait for the next Keith Richards thread - half the comments will be on John Denver!

Someone mentioned that Pat Boone is still with us. He did sing white versions of R & B.

``````````````````````````````````````
“Bad, bad Leroy Brown
Baddest man in the whole darn town”
Pat Boone’s lyrics
Point takened, but he did help rock crossover to Mom & Dad while the teens danced to those “race” records. I can make the case that Pat, Neil Sedaka & Paul Anka belong in the Rock Hall Of Fame more than Joan Jett, whose biggest hits were covers, Dolly and other recent inductees. Hell Freddy Cannon is still out there as well as Avalon.
"The Killer" was a great country singer. I can't listen to What's Made Milwaukee Famous (Has Made a Loser Out of Me) without a heavy heart.
He was there at the beginning, early and mid 50s, before Elvis. Who else was that survives? It’s no exaggeration to say he was one of the originators of rock n roll.
The Hard Rock Cafe in Dallas started out in a location that was a former Baptist church (built in the early 1900s). The developers at the time adapted the windows to the rock & roll theme by having three stained glass windows built to fit - depicting Chuck Berry, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis.
The Hard Rock Cafe eventually moved to another location and the old building was demolished, but the windows were preserved. They are shown below, displayed inside a Dallas gastro-pub called "The Meddlesome Moth".
Jerry Lee was the first to take Black Music and make it Rock and Roll as did Elvis. Cudos to both but Little Richard was the beginning of Rock and Roll as where his white counterpart, Bill Haley and the Comets. All were great.
Got lucky and saw Jerry Lee Lewis,title Richard and Chuck Berry on the same bill at Wolftrap about 20 years ago. The whole park was rocking but Little Richard stole the show.
Now they are all singing “On the Nightshift”!
You forgot the /s after your comment. In any event, music is subjective. A lot of people enjoy his music (for some reason) and he is a popular personality so he has to have stuck a cord with some people. I am just not one of them.
“He was there at the beginning, early and mid 50s, before Elvis.”
I have wondered why people are so quick to say such and such were “there” before Elvis.
Elvis stumbled upon his sound, playing around, during a recording session that would not take off.
“The Million Dollar Quartet” was the best production I ever saw on Broadway. Google it, I can’t do it justice.
JERRY LEE LEWIS, THE LAST ORIGINATOR OF ROCK
Jerry Lee Lewis was Rock-n-Roll to the bone...he had nothing to do with "rock".
"Rock" is a lesser form of music.
I see that the byline is his biographer, Rick Bragg, a wonderful and acclaimed writer.
My favorite version of "Roll Over Beethoven" is by the Four Chaps. Chuck's version might be cool, but the Four chaps really make this tune rock!
Yeah but PB was very boring. Very milquetoast .
At the time, he was the sanitized, nice-guy alternative to the edginess and down-n-dirty honkytonkness of rock'n'roll. Parents could approve of his music, but were justifiably alarmed at the sexual undertones of the early rock lyrics and pounding rhythms, especially on the young teens.
Rock'n'roll of the 50s would soon unleash the 60s and 70s Sexual Revolution that would eventually destroy the majority of women, the family, modesty, public decency, childhood, millions of the unborn, and mental health in this country. Look around you and tell me that's not what has happened.
