I was wondering who would catch that.
I took a jeep tour up to the mountain where they trained. There are still objects from those days lying around; ration cans, the occasional article of clothing...the survival rate for the trainees was about 40%, IIRC.
There’s a large recreational facility at the base of the mountain where we booked the tour, that has a display about Camp Hale. Our jeep driver had a law degree, but chucked his career to do what he loves.

Every Federal welfare and give away program is duplicated for the tribal members that live on reservations. Plus is more generous. So I have read.
So if you take a Federal program to build detached homes or small 6 unit apartment buildings. The tribes have that one too, but better.
If you are an Indian living in the big city, then no. But if you live on the Rez.... Then you are golden.

I want 90% of western lands “owned” by the Federal government to go through a process of sales to U.S. individuals & companies and hadning over millions of acres to the states, to become land holdimgs of the states and private interests. I want “national parks” to be reduced in size everywhere and if states want them kept as large as they are, what the federal government reduces can be taken over by the states, if they chose.

El Capitan gold mine the only mining site I’m aware of; couple miles south of Camp Hale. It’s on HWY. 24, south of Vail, a beautiful drive. When we were there 24 was closed south of the Camp, due to a landslide IIRC.
Interesting town just a little north of Camp Hale, Red Cliff. Jeep driver took me through the town; said it had always been a hideout for criminals due to visibility of incoming vehicles. Cautioned me not to take any pictures and to be as inconspicuous as possible. Some really well-kept homes, some not-so-well.
so, no need for fences around homes in Red Cliff???
I’ve looked into it because Nathan Meeker was distantly related to my ex-wife’s family. The irony is he was a liberal who wanted to improve conditions for the Utes. As a result of his murder, the natives were driven out of the state.
