GMTA!

The Lord is providing opportunity after opportunity for them to illustrate the genuine depravity of the dimocRAT party. Here’s one I saw here on FreeRepublic this morning…

It has it’s place.

As we transition to a post private automobile society, it will come back.

As a Ferriequinologist (railfan), High Speed rail won't work in the USA. It's because of 3 reasons: 1) The USA is spread out with the population either on the coast (DC to Boston, the most successful of 'HighSpeed' Rail, from Miami to Tampa (open from Miami to West Palm Beach , being built to Orlando and planned to Tampa and from LA to SF), but not from Chicago to LA. 2)The railroads are owned by private freight railroads, so the High Speed Rail people would need to build their own lines and the NIMBYs will fight them and 3)Air travel from Coast to Coast is quicker, you may not see the beauty of America, but air is faster.

That said, if Amtrak could build a network (like Boston to Montreal, Chicago to Florida - The old Champion route - or Portland Maine to Quebec City), it would be fun to ride rails.

Until it becomes “Greyhound on rails”, just like air travel because “Greyhound in the sky”.

Public transportation is wholly unsuited for an impolite populace.

Interesting that no American railroad has come forward to take this on. Pretty shameful for the country that invented the railroad.

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Actually, it was the Brits, but I get your point. We became the world leaders in railroading. Another sign of our decline is having foreigners build things for us.

Its sad how we have fallen. We used to build massive railroad projects. They were the engineering marvels of their times. The Central Pacific thru the Sierras, the Moffat Tunnel, the Lackawanna Cutoff, the Hudson Tubes, the railroad to Key Wet among many.

I know that.
You know that.

They know that.

The only thing I don’t know is what the end game is.

It would be a lot cheaper to build casinos in LA than to build a high-speed rail from LA to Las Vegas.

High-speed rail needs to be built on separate railways from freight.

Freight runs really heavy cars on tracks with low grades but tighter curves designed for about 45 mph.

High-speed passenger service needs light cars on track with higher grades but wider curves designed for 250 mph.

And high-speed service requires grade separation from roadways with no road crossings.

Which is why it will never be built in the US. It is only economical when connecting densely populated urban centers. But those are the places where it is impossible to construct new railways through dense neighborhoods.

The “end game” is

You will travel nowhere
You will perform whatever task the state assigns you
You will then return to your quarters in the govt. provided hive
You will eat whatever sustenance the govt provides
You will wear whatever the govt provides
You will........you get the idea

“Rail is a 19th Century solution to 21st Century problems.“

Big government likes rail.
Dumb people aren’t smart enough to control vehicles.
They need to be herded on govt run trains where everyone is equal.
And go where govt allows them to go.

This isnt a technical problem. Its a systematic problem. And this paralysis of American systems is a symptom of why the US is doomed.

I agree. It’s not that we can’t design and build high-speed rail routes, it’s that we aren’t allowed to.

>>Public transportation is wholly unsuited for an impolite populace.

Meanwhile the Dems are trying to empty the prisons, and not put people there who are richly deserving.

And mass transit proponents wonder why more people don’t want to ride!?

You are correct, though I was thinking of our first steam railroad, the Baltimore and Ohio, running from Baltimore to Ellicott City, Maryland.

Rail is a 19th Century solution to 21st Century problems.

For moving people, yes. For freight, not so much.
