He also stated that The Ukraine should negotiate and settle at the beginning before it got out of hand.

Which it has.

US defense official: Russia struggling to recruit new soldiers, turning to prisons, older recruits

[This article was originally published by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and is reprinted with permission.]

A senior U.S. defense official told reporters that Russia is struggling to find more soldiers to fight in Ukraine and said many recruits are older, in bad shape, and are receiving little training.

The defense official, who briefed reporters on August 29 on condition of anonymity, said Kremlin military recruiters are often looking to Russian prisons for new recruits to join the fight.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on August 25 to increase the size of the country’s army by some 10 percent, to 1.15 million servicemen, beginning in January 2023.

The U.S. official noted that Russia has experienced significant troop losses in six months following its invasion of Ukraine.

The official said the Pentagon believes that the effort to recruit significant new numbers of troops “is unlikely to succeed, as Russia has historically not met personnel and strength targets.”

“Russia has already begun trying to expand recruitment efforts,” the official said.

“They’ve done this in part by eliminating the upper age limit for new recruits, and also by recruiting of prisoners.”

“Many of these new recruits have been observed as older, unfit, and ill-trained,” the official said.

Earlier this month, U.S. Under-Secretary of Defense Colin Kahl estimated that 70,000-80,000 Russians had been killed or wounded in Ukraine since the invasion began on February 24.

“Pres. Trump has been fairly supportive of Ukraine”

Pres Trump does support Ukraine:

Former President Donald Trump called in to Varney & Co. on Fox Business.

REMARKS:
“Let me just explain that Putin is saying things like, “Don’t you dare send anything in.” In the meantime he’s killing thousands and thousands of people. So he’s acting like we’re an aggressor if we send in some old 44-year-old plane that probably gets shot at in the sky pretty quickly, and he’s acting like we’re terrible people if we do that. But he’s killing tens of thousands of people, far more than they’re reporting,’ Trump answered.

‘Well what I would do, is I would — we would — we have tremendous military capability. And what we can do without planes, to be honest with you, without 44-year-old jets, what we can do is enormous, and we should be doing it and we should be helping them to survive and they’re doing an amazing job,’ he said.

He added, ‘One thing I’d do rapidly is I’d get the oil flowing, because if you reduce the price of oil significantly, that war is going to end.’
Varney asked, ‘Well what extra military help you would give the Ukrainians.’

Trump said that ‘drones are just as effective as anything nowadays,’ adding that ‘you can do drones, plus they give back tremendous amounts of information, and the information leads missiles to whatever the hell target they are.’

Biden has also taken steps to punish the Russian economy with crippling sanctions on financial institutions and Kremlin elites, along with a full import ban on Moscow’s energy goods.

Putin launched an unprovoked and brutal invasion of Russia’s neighbor on February 24. For nearly four weeks his troops have been bombarding Ukraine’s cities and slaughtering civilians — many of whom were trying to flee the fighting.

Trump repeated his claim that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine ‘would have never, ever started’ if he was still president
He said the US was the ‘greatest nuclear power in the world’ and recalled Putin ‘constantly using the n-word’ — by which Trump meant ‘nuclear.’ “

Actually sent. Arrived, in use, spent, stockpiled by UA. “Slow walking” ended months ago.

UA troops are literally dying because the UA high command is a bunch of inept dolts.

LOL. The west is allowing Russia to keep stolen land so Putin can “save face” as Macron said. You guys need to understand Russia can not win this war. Only Brandon’s weakness and the Soros EU’s financial support keeps Russia from having lost it already.

Fantasize about Putin’s warriors storming Odesa and Kyiv if you wish but understand Ukraine has friends that will never allow that to happen. How does the battlefield look today with the current 1-2 USAF aid flights a day? How do you think it will look with 20? Or 50? Corrupt and incompetent Russia has no hope of winning this arms race. As it was in the Cold War, btw.

Be careful what you wish for. You might get it.

Have you looked at map? That light red on it (the land Russia has liberated) just keeps growing and growing. That is the only measure of who is winning.

Fantasize about Putin’s warriors storming Odesa and Kyiv

I doubt Putin has any desire to take Kiev given that it is comprised of mostly ethnic Russians. The Russians absolutely take Odessa and Kharkiv unless Ukraine unconditionally surrenders.

But, you think Russia liberating all of Donbass, taking Kherson and everything east of the Dnieper river would be defined as a loss for Russia if it didn't take Odessa? This is how you move the goalposts to try to spin a massive loss into a win. It's laughable.

Crimea, Donbass and Kherson will never be part of Ukraine again.

LOL. The west is allowing Russia to keep stolen land so Putin can “save face” as Macron said.

And the West is allowing Israel to keep stolen land to preserve the legacy of Levi Eshkol. Of course.

Fantasize about Putin’s warriors storming Odesa ....

At my #76, I said not a word about "storming Odesa." What I actually said was,

The Russian front line is attacking Nicolaev. If/when Nicolaev falls, they can procced to Transnistria, and Odesa will be cut off. In the Zaporizhzhia oblast, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe is now behind Russian lines.

Your pretend response to your own fantasy is unbecoming.

It is a fact that Russia has been shelling Nicolaev. The obvious next step if/when they capture Nicolaev, is to proceed to the border of Transnistria. What I said was that Odesa would be cut off. There would be no need to storm Odesa.

How does the battlefield look today with the current 1-2 USAF aid flights a day?

Today, as on the first day of the war, Ukraine against Russia is a mismatch and hopeless. What do you think they are flying in that can sustain a 1,500 mile front? You are being ridiculous. The largest capacity aircraft the USAF has is the C5M at about 130T. Maxed out it would carry 173 lbs for each mile of front.

When they get to 8 to 10 flights a day, they will get back to claimed levels in April. I will be the game changer.

Pentagon: ‘Roughly 8 to 10 Flights a Day’ Full of Aid for Ukraine Pouring into Europe

April 12, 2022 | By Greg Hadley and John A. Tirpak

Roughly eight to 10 flights full of supplies and equipment for Ukraine are landing in Eastern Europe every day, Pentagon press secretary John F. Kirby told reporters on April 12, as the U.S. and other nations race to get their aid packages into the hands of Ukrainians combatting Russia’s invasion.

It was 8-10 flights was from the whole world. It was never all US. Now it’s 1-3 from the USAF. Hardly a Berlin airlift and you know it. Of course there is other equipment (HIMARS, etc.) in other nearly NATO states (Romania, Poland, etc.) that don’t need airlift but we’ll just live in our fantasy world and imagine Ukraine is alone. We’ll also pretend Brandon isn’t allowing Russia to manage the sanctions, sell energy through 3rd parties, etc., rather than drill for more oil. That’s all subject to change.

You seem to be forgetting Ukraine is the home team here. Russia is the expeditionary force and barely capable of operating in many areas right now. Winter’s coming. Time to bundle up.

The Berlin airlift was not to supply a war front 1,500 miles long and you know it. Operation Vittles was a peacetime mission.

As I stated in my #T94, which you pathetically ignore:

What do you think they are flying in that can sustain a 1,500 mile front? You are being ridiculous. The largest capacity aircraft the USAF has is the C5M at about 130T. Maxed out it would carry 173 lbs for each mile of front.

Three a day, maxed out, could theoretically carry 500 pounds a day for each mile of front. How many artillery shells is that? Supplying this war front by air is a logistical impossibility. Ukraine does not get enough from the rest of the world to make any difference. For all their Russian artillery Ukraine has no ammunition and no source of supply. All their artillery ammunition has to be imported. All of it comes in overland at the east end Ukraine. Then it has to survive a long trip to the front inside Ukraine.

We’ll also pretend Brandon isn’t allowing Russia to manage the sanctions,

Brandon is not managing anything. The idiotic sanctions are crippling Europe. When their energy gets depleted, they will not be able to heat their homes, keep the lights on, and also run all their factories. That's where their sympathy for Ukraine ends.

You seem to be forgetting Ukraine is the home team here. Russia is the expeditionary force and barely capable of operating in many areas right now. Winter’s coming. Time to bundle up.

You seem to fantasize that Russian logistics go through some border or impediment. There is nothing in the way of Russian resupply. It is Ukraine that faces a naval blockade. Flights with Ukraine are almost at zero. Almost all their stuff comes through Poland by land crossing. It is Ukraine that is logistically challenged, not Russia. One has an abundance of artillery shells, the other does not. Ukraine cannot return the Russian fire because logistics. Winter is coming and then they can throw snowballs at the Russians.

You seem to not realize that Ukraine against Russia is a mismatch. I reckon your military experience is zero. The workhorse cargo plane for the USAF is the C17 which replaced the C141. It has 18 pallet positions. Max load is 176,900 pounds. The USAF has over 200 of the C17s.

The C-130s have a max allowable payload of 44,000 pounds, max normal payload of 36,500 pounds.

The C5M will carry 36 master pallets. Its range is 2,647 miles with maximum cargo capacity. It can seat 80 passengers and the seats are backwards, but you might be able to catch a hop to join the Ukraine foreign legion. Flights to Eurpoe routinely fly out of Dover, Delaware.

Please document.

Besides, if you are Russia, that’s a 13 day supply.

16 HIMARS to date is slow walking any way you slice it. Even that over-optimistic goofball General Hodges says they need 4x.

That said, the Ukies are still chipping away, this time with an old Soviet missile:
