How is this paid for?

He answered the question! They are spending less, by spending more! DUH!

The worst part of this explanation isn't that he said it, it's that there are idiots in America who VOTE, who actually BELIVE it because he said it!!

and the folks pushing educations in “disciplines” that are not marketable and in a sane world would be considered either fancy hobbies or things people with means to pay would go for after they’ve been working

"But, what about my degree in advanced underwater basket weaving?"

MacCallum then turned to the legality of the policy, in which Bernstein argued the post-9/11 law, the “HEROES Act,” allows for them to enforce the loan forgiveness. The law was first proposed in 2003 to grant debt relief for military members serving the U.S. in the wake of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The anchor argued there may be legal challenges to the administration enacting the policy under the post-9/11 law.

bout time somebody got to the gist of this thing not being legal...

Indeed. You are (obviously) correct. Being GRANTS, they are not paid back.

So why then the reported $20K to recipients? Post - grad work?

HEre in GA, the data clearly show the grants go to minorities where the low-income population is the largest. No issue wiith the most needy getting them, regardless of ‘color.’ I was just remarking about the politics around “BIPOCs hit hardest/ not doing enough.”

This people have been smoking mushrooms.

The student debt is on the government’s books as an ASSET. Reduce assets, and you increase net debt.

They are telling us the exact opposite.

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday […] it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it. [...] The eyeless crature at the other table swallowed it fanatically. passionately, with a furious desire to track down, denounce, and vaporize anyone who should suggest that last week the ration had been thirty grams. Syme, too-in some more double complex way, involving doublethink-Syme, swallow it. Was he, then, alone in the possession of a memory?”

My former dope head daughter-In- Law got Pell Grants & student loans, totaling almost $20k and immediately dropped out and went on a drug binge about 15 years ago and never repaid a cent.

I suppose that Biden’s made her free and clear with yours and my money now.

I may be extreme but I’d rather bring back debtor’s prison, we would still be paying the dead beats upkeep but at least they wouldn’t enjoy it.

It’s Democrat logic. It’s like when they call an increase in spending a “draconian cut”.

LOL, sounds about right. Probably the most-financed department in her university.

McCallum’s reply to this (BS) response (that they’re reducing the deficit by more than the amount of the forgiveness) should have been the following:

“Number 1: are you reducing the debt? Not the deficit, the debt? No, you’re not - you’re still spending money we don’t have. You’d reduce the deficit even more without this excessive and unfair spending.”

“Number 2: you’re comparing the deficit level of a stonger economy to the level in the midst of a pandemic, and trying to take a victory lap because the tax receipts are higher and the emergency (pandemic) spending is lower. And now you’re saying you have head-room to spend more because you want the pandemic years to be the deficit high-water mark for comparison? Unbelievable.”

“Number 3: that still doesn’t address the completely unfair nature of the policy, forcing those who didn’t go to college to pay for those who did, and took out loans. Citizens will necessarily pay higher Federal taxes than they otherwise would. These taxpayers also include: those who didn’t complete college, went to a state vs. private school, went to a community college, or those that did pay off their loans, scrimped and saved to pay their way with no loans, and those that worked all through college so they could afford it. What you’re talking about is paying off the loans of doctors, lawyers, engineers, hedge-fund managers, and more. Tell me why it is moral or ethical to have the American taxpayer bail-out people for making poor financial decisions?”

I’m getting pissed about all the RATS saying this money will help them build a communist utopia and stop inflation. I don’t know why a bunch of scumbags with mediocre to poor educations get to spend it. I think the people who earned that money should be allowed to keep it and spend it on themselves and their families. Nobody told the worthless Snowflake generation to go to college. Most of them never even got out of high school to begin with. And then how much of this rip off is going to go to the scumbags illegally crossing the border. FJB!!! Let’s go Brandon!!!
