THat is what I assumed was the issue. You can not slaughter your own cows hogs sheep etc.. and sell it to the public without it being USDA inspected at a USDA approved meat processor. The problem is there used to be small meat processing facilities in almost every small town but they have all but disappeared. The ones that are left have at least 18-24 month waiting lists. So if you have land and want to raise a few cows or pigs to sell cuts at the local farmers market you better have an appointment to get them processed before you eve buy the calf or feeder pig.

Pa Amish are our neighbors. I believe they are mostly apolitical.
That has been changing slightly, best I can tell. Saw some @ Trump events last cycle.
They better ALL jump on the conservative voting train if they don’t want to see their way of life erode even further!

Corporations have, for a long time, used regulation as a path to hurt their competition. They make sure, via lobbying, that new laws are passed that are difficult for anyone that isn’t a large company to conform to. I’d be surprised if farming was an exception.

This Amish farmer is obviously large enough now to get attention. If everything he is doing is natural, how on earth does the Fed have the Constitutional authority to shut him down? Just another example of unbridled, and in my view unconstitutional, authority.

"Help Us, Obi-Wan Trump! You're our only hope!"

When Mother Government went bat-shiite crazy over the selling of raw milk *GASP* that was just the beginning. Well, that and diverting WATER from farmlands to save a snail. But, still. You don't think Mother Government is gunning for you on all sides and in every way possible? Think again.

Sounds like they are doing business over state lines which is probably why Feds and Dept Agriculture is involved. (Not that that matters since growing grain to feed your own farm cattle apparently falls under the aegis of “interstate commerce”) At some level I do want inspections of my bought food products! However this is a private club and they trust their farmer I think that they should be allowed to sign a waiver and release of liability of some sort and buy their meat and cheese.

(The conspiracy theorist / fACTist in me wants to say that perhaps some member of the ruling elite (Soros/Gates/Soetero/Black Rock) wants to increase their holdings of pristine organically farmed agricultural land and sent their Geheime Staatspolizei to incentivize the sale but I will not go that far. I think this just a controlling self justifying bureaucratic state on autopilot !)

Government out of his business is a double edged sword. Are they intrusive? Probably. But one of the problems of living in a very safe society is that people don’t realize just how unsafe things used to be.
Food safety became an issue because it was a common cause of death at one time.

There has also been a massive increase in demand because of the buy local thing and the popularity of grass fed meat. The number of slaughterhouses around here has remained the same.

Something far too few of us have read, lately...

Common Sense, by Thomas Paine

Some writers have so confounded society with government, as to leave little or no distinction between them; whereas they are not only different, but have different origins. Society is produced by our wants, and government by our wickedness; the former promotes our happiness positively by uniting our affections, the latter negatively by restraining our vices. The one encourages intercourse, the other creates distinctions. The first a patron, the last a punisher.

Society in every state is a blessing, but government even in its best state is but a necessary evil; in its worst state an intolerable one; for when we suffer, or are exposed to the same miseries by a government, which we might expect in a country without government, our calamity is heightened by reflecting that we furnish the means by which we suffer. Government, like dress, is the badge of lost innocence; the palaces of kings are built on the ruins of the bowers of paradise. For were the impulses of conscience clear, uniform, and irresistibly obeyed, man would need no other lawgiver; but that not being the case, he finds it necessary to surrender up a part of his property to furnish means for the protection of the rest; and this he is induced to do by the same prudence which in every other case advises him out of two evils to choose the least.

Or just butcher it yourself!

Evidently that is what this Amish farmer was doing and got raided. Sure you can butcher it yourself. But you can not legally sell the meat then. I must admit, I would be very Leary of buying meat from someone that I didn’t know what kind of facility the animal was processed in. The level of sanitation for a meat processor must be very high in order to meet USDA standards.

Thank you for sifting through the click bait to ask the relevant question. It’s not like FDA is something new. How long has he been operating?

Just curious. Where is the 'click bait'? I click on the link and it takes me to the article page. There's only the video, a photo of Trump, the article itself, and the comments.

Nothing else. And according to the article he's been doing this for 25 years and has 4000 people buying products from him.
