the ultimate point is NOT how much or how little Lake Las Vegas takes, its the idea that citizens are asked to not water lawns, take their lawns out, only wash their cars on certain days, etc etc.....
its in your face to have the rich enjoy green golf courses and water slides etc at their little private "lake"...

It’s my understanding the US has a treaty with Mexico to allow a certain amount of Colorado River water to flow to Mexico. The Mexican Water Treaty of 1944 committed the U.S. to deliver 1.5 million acre-feet of water to Mexico on an annual basis, plus an additional 200,000 acre-feet under surplus conditions. The treaty is overseen by the International Boundary and Water Commission.
Even though that sounds like a lot, the delta at the Gulf of California is dry now when at one time, the Colorado flowed freely into the gulf.

Yes, in spring, Las Vegas Wash is great for birding. On the south side of the wash, there’s a parking area at Pabco Weir. It’s on the maps. You can stroll around here or even cross the river over these spaced concrete pillars. If you’re an Easterner, you can get some great lifers here. It should be loaded with Lucy’s Warblers, Abert’s Towhees, Crissal Thrashers, Gambel’s Quail, Black-tailed Gnatcatchers, Anna’s and Costa’s Hummingbirds, and many many other species . It’s probably the easiest spot to see a Greater Roadrunner too if you’ve never seen one before.
Enjoy your visit! Just don’t fall in the water… Haha!

I have been forced by employers on two occasions to go to Vegas. I hate that place with a purple passion.

I’ll take “What results when you put millions of people, golf courses and thirsty gardens in a desert for 500, Alex.”

Don’t millions of “migrants” need water and energy?

They seem to trudge through the Northern Mexico deserts without either!

Exactly my point. Is Mexico still getting agreed upon water which has to be coming from Lake Mead since it is upriver?
To: neverbluffer
Don’t know.
I would imagine that if they weren’t they would be making a lot of noise about it.

I shared this exact article about 1 year ago on another Lake Mead thread.
YES, Mexico is getting a lot of that water!
To: Paladin2
Yep. Screw the unborn generations — what have they done for me recently?
To: HartleyMBaldwin
I’ll make an exception for increasing government debt.
Other than that, there is a water cycle, and I’m NOT going to stop burning Diesel, pure gasoline, natural gas, propane, nor firewood. Electricity too.
I’m going to continue eating red and white meats.
I’m going to continue exhaling CO2, for the trees.
YMMV.

Whatever passes by.
There are no shortage of issues. Water in SW USA has never ceased to be an issue for millennia.
LA stealing the water from the Mono Valley is still outrageous. YWMV. [Where I live we have to pay the gpv’t to relieve us of “excess” rainfall.]
