The Colorado River water deal between the US and Mexico - “The deal included pledges for about half that much water, a total of 210,000 acre-feet through 2026 — enough water that if spread across Phoenix would cover two-thirds of the city a foot deep. This water — averaging 23,000 acre-feet a year — represents a small fraction of the 1.5 million acre-feet that Mexico is entitled to each year under a 1944 treaty, and an even smaller fraction of the larger allotments that California and Arizona take from the river upstream.”
Thanks for that link.

Building a city in the desert must have seemed like a good idea to someone.

Exactly right. How can the pols expect population of the west to double every few decades and not build any new infrastructure? The entire west is coasting on the infrastructure built in the 1950s and 1960s.
We moved to Los Angeles in 1954 when I was three. My parents hated it even then and we returned to upstate NY a couple years later. The population was about 10 million. I moved to CA after college in 1973 and the population was about 20 million. Today it's about 40 million. And the entire west has run out of water.

Thanks for the link to news about Lake Las Vegas. History: Las Vegas was a town in 1920’s with two things: railroad and water. Sure, it was hot, but the railroad engines needed to stop their and there was plenty of well water. My Grandfather was the only doctor in Las Vegas in the 1940’s. Physics: Thankfully, God the Father has placed enough food, water and oil on planet earth for 15 billion people today. Wisdom appreciates His bounty and prudence increases His bounty. There are droughts of both wisdom and prudence in our spoiled, lazy leadership.

A development with a lake here and a development with a lake there adds up.

Never heard of them, until now. I assume they the dolts who thought a city in the desert made sense.

how the heck do they get enough water to support that?
The nearby agriculture gets even more. AZ grows lots of lettuce. I also don't get the numerous golf courses here in the desert.

1FreeAmerican was referring to the mafia family in The Godfather who moved to Vegas to clean up the family assets.
Actually, in the movie Moe Greene was the man who built up Vegas. In real life, mobster Bugsy Siegel did it (See partially accurate movie Bugsy, or better, read up on him).

It used to be people moved to Phoenix because of respiratory problems. People insisted on greenery which produced pollen reducing the benefits.

I believe the treaty gives Mexico only 5 to 7 per cent of the water, and the Colorado almost never reaches the sea nowadays. California gets more than half.

Why am I thinking Mexico is getting our Lake Mead water? That's an interesting take on reduced water flows to Mexico. Monterrey is almost out of water.
