They f-ed Soldier’s Field up when they added the additional seats. Putting a dome over it will ruin it completely.
Signed: by someone who grew up in Chicago and who hates what they did to Soldier’s Field AND the Adler Planetarium (not to mention the new inferior star projection system now inside the Adler Planetarium compared to the previous precision first class Zeiss projector)
I’m really not sure why they even have a committee. The team has bought land in one of the burbs. They’re moving. Nothing the city can do. These discussions are a waste of money.
If I am a Bears fan, I would want the same kind of home field advantage Green Bay gets in January at Lambeau. Snow and cold is a feature.
Sounds like the 1998 TV movie “The Fixer”!
1.5 Billion is serious money. Isn’t Chicago broke? Even if they sell naming rights, how the heck.can they recoup such a big expenditure?
And what about the elephant in the room, the issues of crime in the city scaring fans away?
Won’t the bears just flee through the regular gates if an aerial escape route is blocked off???
Of course, since it’s the present-day Chicago Bears, there’s no need to worry about the Bears playing any meaningful games in January
Lol!!!!!
So is freezing your @$$ off?
Id prefer the Vikes new stadium
Why do stadiums cost well over a billion dollars nowadays? I know they have skyboxes and video screens, but does that really add so much to the cost of construction???
It is the NFL - dont care, wont watch.
I note that since moving indoors, the Vikings haven't made it back to the Super Bowl.
Cowboys’ Stadium has Jerruh’s Wife’s art collection.
Art collection in a football stadium?!?!?!?! What has the world come to?
$1.5 billion for a roof for Soldier Field is crazy.
I expect this commission is just a way for Mayor Groot to pay some political supporters.
The Raiders new digs in Vegas reportedly cost $1.9 billion to build and it’s pretty fancy.
“Despite being an inside field, the playing surface is made out of real grass. It has a track deep underneath it, and during breaks between games it can be wheeled outside to receive direct sunlight.”
It also has a translucent roof, windows on the sides that show the local area, including The Strip.

Less chance of getting hit by stray bullets.
“I note that since moving indoors, the Vikings haven’t made it back to the Super Bowl.”
That’s got nothing to do with the stadium. They just suck.
If the team is in the northwest suburbs, it is farther from the southeast suburbs. The city center is equidistant from all around Chicagoland.
What did they do to Adler? I haven’t been there in a lot of years.
