Politics is downstream of culture (and both are downstream of religion). The culture war is an important topic.
“What a waste of time to talk about this on this site.“
——-
So why are you wasting time on this thread?
In Disney’s Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness, the girl sidekick to Dr Strange had two mommies.
You must be thinking of “Raiders of the Back Door” in casting now.
.
I agreee #2 was better in many ways to #1.
Thank you for taking the time to tell others here that you were taking the time to tell others that what you were taking the time to talk about was a waste of time.
My wife and I loved the new Top Gun movie. Some nostalgia, but plenty of new action, too. Plus, it’s making libs apoplectic, so it must be good.
Agree, Top Gun 2022 is a splendid film — and a good choice for FReepers, I think. There was not a single “woke” element in the film. It’s also a great 4th of July celebration of Americans at their best.
Yes, in many ways, Top Gun 2022 is a better film than the original. Of course a key reason it works is covers the themes, a few familiar faces, and the same personality types we met in the 1986 film.
Splendid casting and acting throughout: one guy bears a striking resemblance to an actor in the first Top Gun.
Super special effects (aerial combat scenes are much better done than the recent Midway film), a fine tribute to our military, a mission impossible, and an ageless Maverick (Cruise) who has mellowed out to become a test pilot until called upon a higher mission.
Like the first film, Top Cruise 2022 works because the flying antics are mixed with a great human story about the conflicts and team-building that’s a prelude to achieving great things.
Take your sweetheart and enjoy this one.
Disney grooming grooming...
It’s about $1.5 Billion now and still going strong. It debuted yesterday on Streaming to Buy, I did and it was about $20.
Watched it last night and it was just outstanding. It was an old fashioned Action Drama, well written and just fun to watch. Val Kilmer’s presence is felt in the film from the very beginning , and the scene with Tom Cruise was a little emotional to watch. I understand Tom and Kilmer are good friends and Cruise made sure Kilmer got great billing and was paid very well for his role.
Definitely will watch this again, I give Tom Cruise credit for going all out and putting everything he could into making this film as good as it could possible be, it had all the elements of an old style Hollywood film, no Woke Crap or Propaganda, no LGBT characters or subplot, just a very high adrenaline movie that hits all of the right buttons to make it a great film.
Yet Hollywood will probably not recognize this film come Oscar time and they certainly will not nominate Tom Cruise or anyone else in this picture for any awards, even though it is the biggest picture in the world right now and one of the highest grossing in the last 2 1/2 years.
China tried to stop Cruise from using the Taiwan patch on his bomber jacket and he said Hell No. I don’t what Cruise’s politics are but I have been a fan for a long time and will continue to support his films.
The only thing missing was a role for Jack Nicholson which would have been great.
