No WOKE sh*t either...
I hope no one joins the service and discovered our ‘military is WOKE BS Gender obsessive crapola.
It is an excellent film. The underlying theme is, I think, a metaphor for where Tom Cruise is heading with his acting career. The movie is centered around aging and obsolescence, and the very real issues we all face with that. How long can Maverick be an ace fighter pilot? How long can Cruise maintain his own high level of stunt work doing action films?
That’s what I got from the movie, more than anything. It also a blatant love letter to his fans, which he personally states in a rare forward to the film.

I loved the movie. It was so good!
1. Hollywood isn't going away. Such wishful thinking is like the guys pushing gold and doomsday shelters and economic doom newsletters, and reminds me of Mean Girls....it's not going to happen.
2. Hollywood and Hollyweird are two separate tribes (ask max americana). True, the studios and many major players may push wokey nonsense, but they like cash. Peak domestic box office take was $12bn in 2018. Top Gun has the potential to become a major draw in 2022 AND historic terms. It is pulling in not just older people but across ALL demographics. Go figya...ya stop trashing the values that make America great and you make a fortune. In fact, they way how you don't know if the Enemy is Russia, China, or Norway (!) means our TRUE enemies will PAY TO SEE THEMSELVES LOSE! Genius, and even wokey people like lobster vs tuna.
3. Hollyweird also isn't going away (just like Springsteen still has fans), but it CAN wither. The studios will take note of Top Gun's success and the failure of wokey nonsense that des at the box office. In every profession, consultants push this and that idea...some take root but over time the bad ones die. If you see Top Gun AND Boycott stupid stuff, they'll notice the dollar movements. Again, cash trumps love in the land of make-believe.
4. You'll feel good. Ignore those woth hardeed hearts and heads. Before the film, they ran a self-serving short with Nicole Kidman suggesting that movies are good for your soul. I scoffed, muttered some unsolicited feedback, then Mrs DoodleBob said "well you CAN leave." I stated, and...well...call me maleable, but Tim's ex was right. I felt good about America, the future, our past, and how to advance after the film. It is THAT GOOD.
Good, nay GREAT art helps the soul. It moves you in a way like no other media. This is great art. Let's use the Invisible Hand to hasten the retrenchment of Hollyweird.
It has to be seen on the big screen JMHO
interesting lawsuit has happened. It will , in part, hinge on release date that supposedly was delayed due to COVID. Another excuse was that they wanted to get it right with special effects
Given the wicked ways of hollywood...it might have been delayed to screw over the plaintiff.
Going to be hard to beat Paramount
What was unfeasible about the romantic part. Granted, “Penny” was a little long in the tooth for Maverick. Maverick’s girlfriends should be in their mid 30’s - 40 tops
My career fighter pilot buddy said he could guarantee the movie would do three things. Be utterly wrong about everything to do with jet fighters, make Tom Cruise look awesome, and be entertaining as hell.
He gave it 2 thumbs up and said make sure to see it in the best IMAX theater you could.
btw, the lawyer Marc Toberoff in this suit also represents heirs of co creator of Superman..
i didn’t know SU-57s were considered old aircraft.
Jerry Bruckheimer is one of the few big producers in Hollywood who is a Republican. It goes a long way as to why this film is a feel good patriotic throwback.
We had to drive a distance to see it & liked it a lot. Not only was it patriotic, it was a lot of fun. We have a local historic theater nearby & will take the grandkids to see it whenever it gets out here.
If it’s like the first film, a live-action cartoon then.
No, thank you.
That’s great - I appreciate experts that understand the difference between a documentary and a movie.
Yeah, when I went into the theater I was wondering how this movie got made. A few minutes in I see Jerry Bruckheimer’s name and everything made sense.
I enjoyed the action scenes but the melodrama filler was meh.
IIRC, Tom Cruise has a number of licenses for a number of aircraft ratings. He also has a car racing license-—but I do not know which kind of racing.
“When Tom Cruise said at the beginning that he made it for US, by the end of the movie, I fully understood what he meant.”

I had the same reaction!
I could pick apart the movie on some technicalities, but I wanted to enjoy it, so I over look those. And I did enjoy it.
The original came out when I was going through RAG training in San Diego so seeing North Island and the O’club on the beach was like a trip back in time.
