Chinese and Roman societies did very well for many centuries when duty to one’s parents was a primary virtue. Not perfectly, but reverence for ones ancestors was a good measure of the moral virtue of a man.
well then if you have children take care of them properly!! They were NOT put on Earth to fufill your dreams and do your scut work, either.

That was the “pre nursing” home plan.
The last girl took care of mom and dad, and then got a bigger share of the money.
It was planned, talked about, and expected. The last girl would never marry but take care of her parents.
My great aunt caused a scandal when she eloped with a baseball player. Not because she eloped, that was not uncommon, but because “She abandoned her elderly mother!”
My great aunt was 11 of 12.
We also need to stop idealizing the past. There were things that were better, but childhood ended pretty early. Grandpa had to find his own way at age 12, and that was common. His parents did not, so to speak, raise him. They didn’t have time.
my oldest sister never married and never lived alone, always with my parents.
I actually felt sorry for my parents- couples need and deserve privacy.
Get an apartment near by- have your own life, and let them have one, too.
