ANOTHER REASON TO HOMESCHOOL

This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)

The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.

This must be some of that socialization parents are warned their kids are going to miss out on if they are homeschooled.

Good point...I hadn’t thought about that. Are such basic phones still made and sold?

Agreed - texting should absolutely be banned in the classroom.

But I think that could easily be controlled by the teacher in the classroom vs an outright ban on smartwatches which have increasingly health related uses.

In some cases a student is going to need their smartphone as well for health purposes (Eg diabetics who monitor their blood sugar via their phone)

But otherwise, yeah, ban away.

yeah - surprisingly I was reading that there’s a trend back to simple flip phones and getting away from smartphones altogether.

“In case of an emergency, I want to be able to get in touch with my sons.”

Home school then.

What the school is really worried about are students filming the teachers instructing them on the best sex positions after transgendering, all while hating white people.

I was thinking, “Good! Kids should be learning, not staring at their devices.” But you make a good point.

I’m ok with that.

While trying to teach CAD design via zoom, my brother had two monitors. On one, he was demonstrating design lessons while simultaneously he was expected to watch all of his students on the other monitor.

Because of covidiocy he was also learning a new CAD software package as he was teaching it. (Their licensed product, with which he had 20 years of expertise could only be used on school owned computers)

One student was showing porn from his smartphone to the laptop camera.

The students were so upset at this kid they petitioned the school to expel him

Of course they chose to blame my brother instead.

I help lead a boys outdoor adventure organization. I strongly support no electronics for the youth.

If there’s an emergency, parents need to call me, the leader, not their kid.

There is no emergency ever where you need to calm your kids when they are under the guidance of adults.

Anyone that objects to taking the cell phones away from students or prohibiting them from being used should try to teach where they are allowed. Classrooms are anarchy.

“Because it could put a child at risk.”

Then it must be illegal to send a child out without a cellphone.

I think the real point is...It's my child and if I want him to have a cell phone with him/her at all times...then that's the way it should be.

The schools should butt out.

“I think the real point is.”

The point of discussion was the legality of the school’s actions.

The public government schools are scared to death they’ll get recorded while attempting to subvert and corrupt the kids.

After Monday, parents will have to contact the office to communicate with their children.

Wow! What an interesting concept.

Seems so familiar, though. 🤔

I’m sure my parents wanted the same thing.

Back then they would have had to call the school and have me fetched to the office.

A similar length of time before that, they would have had to send a runner or run themselves.

Technology has spoiled us.
