I don’t understand how they were able to identify Coates as the real father. If the daughter had a DNA test, they knew she wouldn’t be a match to her “father”...so how did they have access to Coates’ DNA to know that HE was actually the father?

She was looking for her father via on-line DNA data.

Apparently his, or a relative’s, DNA was online.

Maybe the selected donor was not available!
Fake donor, pocket the donor fee.
She got handed $5 Million because the doctor used his hand. Not a bad return for a few seconds of the Five Finger Exercise!
