Milton Freidman proposed a negative income tax, but even he opposed this because the welfare state will never get abolished.

It is nothing but a gigantic subsidy for drug cartels and liquor stores disguised as aid to the poor. The government might even recoup some of it when everyone goes out to buy lottery tickets.
Problem is, they don’t end badly for the people that start them.

UBI actually makes sense *IF* we eliminate ALL other social programs, along with the government entities (local, state, and federal) that administer them. It’s actually cheaper to give everyone in the country a thousand dollars a month than it is to run all those programs.
Of course, NO ONE is suggesting actually doing away with all those other programs. This will just hasten our economic collapse.
When Katrina hit, the FEDS gave out preloaded credit cards.
Audits of those cards later showed lots of $$$$$$$ was spent in Casinos & strip clubs.
Take away free meals at schools, also.

Shows real ignorance of human nature. Most of the people receiving this are “poor” because they are irresponsible with the money they already get and with other parts of their lives.
Giving them more money with no strings attached is like pouring gas on a fire.
Poverty is not caused by a lack of money, but by a lack of character.

Until the owner of the aquarium decides he’s tired of keeping the fish, and turns off the water filter, and stops feeding them.
And they all die.
They aren’t giving out “free money” in rat-holes like Gary, Indiana because they actually want to help the recipients. They’re doing it because they don’t want the recipients to move somewhere else and accelerate the collapse of the city.
Seriously, why should I work, if the government will take money from people who do work, and give it to me?
