I would point out that this is an example of NATO overreach, which is sort of a thing NATO’s been doing ever since the Warsaw Pact collapsed. Kosovo comes to mind.

What vital national interest do we have in Ukraine? They are not a NATO member. In any case, Putin is not trying to take over all of Ukraine. His terms are that the two eastern provinces go, Ukraine remains neutral and the Nazis embedded in the Ukrainian military have to go. That's it. He's not attempting to gobble up all of Ukraine and reconstruct the Soviet Union. There is nothing in Russia's terms that should not be agreed to by the Ukrainians and there's certainly nothing that is a threat to NATO in that.

That's right generous of you!

And I expect that next, you'll be saying that those will be Putin's "final territorial claims" in Eastern Europe?

Regards,

Ukraine has plenty of warplanes. The corrupt politicians want a war to cover up the money laundering going on.

“Did Russia claim sovereignty over any part of Afghanistan?”

In essence, by proxy - their installed puppet.

He doesn’t understand it because he’s stupid.

And corrupt.

But mostly stupid.

“Do we have any “vital national interests” in Europe anywhere??? “Nope.”

Sorry you think that way.

If he were attempting to reconstruct the Soviet Union his terms would be surrender or die.....and he would not hesitate to target civilian areas with much more deadly weapons than he has used thus far.

Only a matter of time, as present conditions digress.

The endless Hitler analogies toward everybody some Neocon wants us to go to war with got old a long time ago. The facts on the ground are the people in those region are Russian speaking ethnic Russians who do not want to be part of Ukraine....and who have been oppressed and targeted by the Ukrainian government. Y'know, like the Kosovars in Kosovo which was a province of Serbia.....the ones we helped gain their independence in the 90s by bombing the hell out of Serbia.

Having Ukraine as a neutral buffer state between Russia and NATO is something many including Henry Kissinger, George Kennan have recommended.

Perhaps we should clean up our house first before we point too many fingers!

How much of the $13.6 Billion we are sending to the Ukraine is actually going to be spent on worthwhile stuff that actually will help the Ukrainian people, vs how much will make it into the corrupt leadership's pockets? And that is not to even mention how much will make it to Hunter, the big guy, the DNC, the Clinton Foundation and who knows who else. There is no accountability with this type of spending.

And no, the Ukraine region which has been part of Russia for hundreds of years and saving their corrupt regime installed by Soros, and deep state skulduggery is not worth starting WWIII over. All the tough talking armchair generals here who think it is, are absolute morons who know much more about football games and video games than reality. We are sacking the world economy right now over this idiocy. At this point millions of people are likely going to die from famine regardless of military action.

But don't worry your pretty little head over it... the people in charge will let no crisis go to waste and they will keep busy creating more. Go right along with Biden, the DNC and the Bush loving anti-Trumpers who just love this type of thing. Because hell you have yours don't you and every place is corrupt so why worry?

Do you even have a clue how corruption is cleaned up? One step at a time, but it starts with not allowing obviously tainted elections to stand. Something which the Bush loving Never-Trumper, Senator Portman, one of your heroes apparently does not support.

It’s a lot like a statement made by Mark Twain:

Man is the only animal that blushes....and needs to.

“I don’t know why that would be true.”
———————-
Maybe because countries at war take a rather dim view of other countries supplying their enemies with weapons to kill their troops and destroy their equipment? Perhaps Senator Shitferbrains (RINO, OR) might take a look at the sinking of the Lusitania, among other acts by a Germany that was less than thrilled by us arming the Brits and the cheese-eating surrender monkeys.

My pretty head is fine! It rarely worries your insults aside.

After Stalin killing 3.5 to 4 million Ukrainians by starving them to death they no longer have warm feelings for their Slav brothers. Note it took Russia 11 years after WWII to pacify Ukraine. I am not advocating US boots on the ground or planes in the air. I am saying don’t expect this to just go away quietly.

And yes I know how long such investigations take. Quite often too long because of a need to get slam dunk proof. When its ready to deliver too often the scoundrels have the reigns of power again or never lost them.

Biggest way to start the process is vote then “ins” out.
Unless the choice in the general is a Rat which means the choice boils down to corrupt vs corrupt & crazy. I put up with another term of the corrupt I know and try again next time. Term limits would be a great help too even if it just complicates partisan politics.

"They can use highways and flat farm fields for takeoff and landing"

True. Of course they still require fuel, weapons and maintenance.

"Ukrainian Fighter/bombers could flee into NATO countries while being pursued by Russian fighters bringing the war into NATO airspace."

That has already happened.

"On Feb. 24, 2022, during the opening phases of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, a Ukrainian Air Force Su-27 Flanker was intercepted by two Romanian Air Force F-16 Fighting Falcons in QRA (Quick Reaction Alert) under NATO command after it intruded into the Romanian airspace at 06.15LT. The Flanker, fully loaded with six R-27 (AA-10 ALAMO) medium/extended-range Air-to-Air Missiles and four IR-guided R-73 (AA-11 ARCHER) AAMs, was escorted to the RoAF 95th Air Base in the northeastern Romanian city of Bacău, where it landed at 07.05LT." https://theaviationist.com/2022/03/01/ukrainian-su-27-returns-to-ukraine/

I am sorry Reilly, you make some good points. I tend to get carried away when thinking about the possibility of WWIII or even a trashed world economy. What really keeps the peace in this world is prosperity and this never ending nonsense is causing economic problems for people everywhere. A quick resolution would be to everyone's benefit, adding billions of dollars of arms to the equation likely would drag things out.

But my guess is that very little of the money will actually make it to the battlefield. The current crop of Ukrainians likely do not have the staying power of their grandparents and would prefer to use this as an excuse to go to a more prosperous country, or just do their best to get back to life as normal playing with their iphones rather than weaponry.

That’s ok don’t worry about it. I am sometmes over react to to what I see as an ever decreasding lack of decorum on this site.

Agree!
The Ukrainians may surprise us with their staying power.

The Russian Army’s poor performance from planning to execution has surprised me. You would think they would have learned form their past even recent adventures.
The Ukrainians may just do enough to get a reasonable settlement and the Russian may continue perform at a low enough level to give it to them.

Some of those I have had the rowdiest conversations with have become my “besties” over time.

You make more good points but I would not believe Western media accounts of how badly the Russians are doing. It has been mostly propaganda. And the kids in Ukraine are likely to get tired of this very quickly when their phones quit working, they are having to poop in a hole, they are eating cold crap and moldy bread, their cloths are filthy and they do not have a change of underwear. Not to mention going up against people who have been trained to shoot back.

I don’t rely on media sources for my opinions.
I was in Ukraine on business soon after the USSR breakup. To say they hate their fellow Slav brothers the Russians would be an understatement. When they found out I was an American they made sure I understood that. Family Holodomor story after family Holodomor story and yes, it’s possible they all could have been lying. I don’t think so! The hate was so solid you could cut it with a knife. I get fresh updates on that hate from a couple of Ukes I know through my current contract up the road in Pittsburgh. Its fresh hate from the home country and yes it all could be lies. Again, I don’t think so.
